Hi all,

I just submitted my paper-based PR application after being nominated by the BC PNP Skills Immigration stream. However, in regard to the work permit, it has taken so long to get nominated that my company is now talking about delaying my start date, perhaps until after Christmas, as we have largely missed the peak summer period. My concern is that the nomination has been granted on the understanding "that the nominee is urgently required by the employer". At what point would CIC or the BC PNP start to be concerned if I delay starting work? The nomination certificate expires in Jan but there is no expiry listed on the Work Permit Support Letter.

Cheers,
Grug

It is not a mandatory requirement that you must come into Canada and work for your BC supporting employer asap upon receiving your nomination. It's just an expectation by BCPNP (not even by IRCC). If your company decides to delay your work commencement date, they can do it without problem. Just need to make sure that your company helps you completing the work permit application (they have their part to do through the IRCC Employer Portal) before your nomination certificate expires.
