Hello All,
I am pretty new here. I have tried to search but cannot find any case in similar situation.
Currently I am in US for my PhD study. I will graduate in December this year. In May I accepted a job offer in Vancouver BC. The company told me that they are not going to apply LMO. Instead, they applied BC PNP for me as skilled worker. They told me that once I get the nomination letter I will be able to apply for temporary work permit and entering visa until I become PR of Canada. Believe me, I had no idea what is PNP and LMO then. Unfortunately, the processing time had been delayed due the large volume of applications. I haven't got any update from them. A few days ago, when I checked the processing time for work permit at New York embassy, I was surprised to find it will be another 5 months. It will be very hard for me to wait for 5 additional months in US, not mention I wont be able to stay legally here in State. By the way, I do not have any Canadian visa. I have never come to Canada.
So I contacted a specialist of Canadian Immigration. I explained him my situation. I was wondering if there will be any fast way for me to get work permit. He told me I can just apply for a entering visa, like a visitor visa. At the boarder of entry, I can directly apply for the work permit. He said so long you have all the required documents, like approval of PNP, police record, medical check, etc., the chance is high for me to get the work permit. I was not convinced. So I consulted another specialist. This one, however, told me a different story. He said theoretically it is doable. However, whether I will get the work permit will depend on the officer process the documents. In his opinion, it will be to risky to do in this way. If I failed, it may have some negative impacts on my later application for PR. Now I am totally confused. Obviously I would like to get the work permit in a fast manner. But I do not want to take too much risk. What's do your guys think?
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
My application was received on 9th May. My file number is SO-14-25xx.
Thank you so much.
