Hello!

My name is Kelsey, I currently live in the United States with my wife on a 10 year green card (I'm the Canadian Citizen) and after a year of being here, we have decided that we wish to go the other way (And yes, I'll be honest, the result of the election has made our choice more than clear now but we've been debating this for the last 8 or so months).

My questions I can't find answers too but are probably FAQ's are the following:

1) I want to apply for in-land, seeing that my wife would be able to live with me and possibly work in the mean-time. Since I live in the US, is it possible for me to do this if I move back to Canada, and can I bring my wife with me right away, or do I need to establish time back in Canada.
-> If I do need to establish time back in Canada before bringing her into the country, how long do I need to be back in Canada?

2) I know I will not meet the minimum financial yearly amount. When I came down to the US we were able to have a co-sponsor. But I think I'm reading on the website here that the co-sponsor can only be my spouse? Would a non-blood relative or friend be able to co-sponsor?

3) Outland of course sounds faster and appealing in ways. Am I able to apply while still living in the US with my wife while we wait for the application to go through? Further more, in your opinion, based on the information given, which process would you recommend I do?

4) I hear rumors that my wife can be denied for something as simple as not having a career path Canada desires, which turned us away from wanting to go the Canada route the first time. Is this true?

I can't think of anymore questions at this time, but if I do, I'll add them to this thread.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this!

1) Apply outland. Inland is an absolutely horrible choice for Americans. We've had quite a few Americans approved here in four months or less through outland.
2) There's no minimum income.
3) Yes - apply outland while you are both still in the US. You will have to provide proof that you plan to return to Canada to live here once her visa is approved.
4) Not true. Ignore rumors and read facts on the CIC web site.

Are you sure about the income? I'm reading that in able to sponsor her, I need to make 39k a year...is that not true or where can you point me where it says I don't need to make that much?

Hi saddlepatch,

for spousal sponsorships there is no such thing as minimum income requirements. The only thing you can't be is on social assistance.

You might have read income requirements for other family sponsorships such as parental.

Spousal sponsorships (and the immediate dependants) are exempt from low-income cut off. If you were sponsoring a parent or grandparent, or you had dependants of dependants (making you a grandparent) then they would assess your application for LICO.

Do you have any idea how I apply whilst in the US?

Inland you must be in Canada. Outland you just send the application package. Search google for "cic sponsor spouse" and follow the links for outside Canada (when the website comes back up).

EDIT: Link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

You follow the outland process. I would provide a link but it looks like America is still crashing the CIC web site...

***Edit: Profiler has provided the link above***

Yeah, I'm gonna let it chill for a few hours, or at least a day, should be okay by then. It happened before when he won the nominee. I think it only lasted a day if that.

I'm not a wannabe American looking to run, I'm a CANADIAN looking to protect my family from Trump!
