Hello,

Im just trying to get into the details of Canadian Immigration. I however have two questions before I can learn and understand this process.

I am an IT professional with 8+ years experience in an IBM technology and currently have a two year gap in my career due to personal reasons. Currently I am unemployed and residing in US on H4 and will be unable to travel to India until next year.

Shld I have a job offer letter to apply for Canadian PR and will my gap cause any hindrance to the process ?
Shld I approach a consultancy for filing my PR or can we really do everything online with the help of forums. Can all the steps of medicals and other activities for the PR application get done in USA or do I need to travel to India. Will it really cost me more for doing all this process from USA.
Once the PR is processed will my Spouse be able to work, will be both be eligible to work ?

Thanks for your reply. I want to start my process without any loopholes from my side. Please guide

Thanks

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
You can apply as foreign skilled worker if your work experience matches NOC code given on CIC website. The experience should be with 10 years. Gap doesnt matter, but you need reference letter from previous employment (for atleast 3 years of experience). No need to approach any consultant you can do everything on your own. You can do it online so your current place of residence doesnt matter. Resident means you and your spouse are free to do any kind of work.

Ans: The gap in your employment doesn't matter so far you can give account of what you were doing. You can apply from US since you are residing there legally. To start with, try check for the most appropriate NOC code for your job title and job description here http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2011/QuickSearch.aspx?val65=*

Shld I have a job offer letter to apply for Canadian PR and will my gap cause any hindrance to the process ?

Ans: Since you are unemployed now, what you need are experience letters from your previous employers. A typical experience letter states, the date you started working with the company, the date you left, your job description, your annual income, job type (ie. full time or part time). Honestly speaking, you do not need a consultant for filing your PR if you can go through relevant threads on this forum and ask question when you are stuck. Check out this thread http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/express-entry-step-by-step-instructions-t273928.0.html
Surely all the steps can be done in US. If you need help, ask in the forum. There will be someone that has gone through what you are facing.

Once the PR is processed will my Spouse be able to work, will be both be eligible to work ?

Ans: It is advisable you include your spouse in the application. What that mean is that not only will you spouse be able to work, you spouse will be getting his or her PR as you are getting yours
