Please let me know which Canadian banks have the facility of opening accounts while in US. I need to access the account from US (without incurring any charges) and after landing in Canada. I am now living in Southern California.

Please share your experience.Thank You !

Hi,

Banks like Bank of Montreal, RBC also offers the possibility to open an account in Canada before landing but your account will be freezed and will only be activated when you visit the branch or bank in person (identify confirmation is a must). just type in the name of a bank and "newcomer" in your browser and will get specific information about how to apply.

cheers

Thank You all. HSBC seems to be the best option for me, since they have a branch close by.

I like PC Financial because it is fee-free. It is part of CIBC, though you don't have access to tellers.

hi........

For people who are going from India. Scotia bank is providing the facility of opening an account in canada from India by showing your visa in delhi at selected scotia bank offices. I do not know the details. But like somebody else mentioned on the forum that they allow a one time transfer of some x amount (dont know the exact figure) before you land there. that account will be frozen and you can activate it when you land there by showing required documents like landing papers. If you dont land within 6months of opening the account the money will be remitted back to the account from where you had transferred the money.

Hello,

Although some banks offer the possibility to open a bank from abroad, some of their branch may refuse the application.
It maybe a specific case but it happen to me. The person who answer my call when I inquired about my application asked me where did I learn about such service, even though it is largely written on their homepage.

Cheers
