CIC doesn't ask for bank statements at all. Attach them only if you think CIC would have any reasons to suspect that your funds could be encumbered.
I have a BoA account. I no longer live in the US, but all my savings are there. I previously asked for a letter with the format my immigration lawyer asks (Indicating Monthly average, and declaring no debts).

BoA does not provide that. They simply give a print out with the average amount for the last 6 months. I ask them to sign it, but they say no one in the bank is allowed to sign any document of any kind. My lawyer insists this letter is not good enough. Is there a contact number to get a more complete letter with all the requirements?

Since I am living in China is there any way for me to get a digital letter from here? any ideas on the contact?

Much appreciated. Thank you.

They do issue a letter though it does not tick all of CIC requirements. I was initially provided a printout as well but after I rejected it then I was provided with another that ticked a few of CIC requirements. It's very hard for any of the large US banks to give a letter with all of CIC requirement. I have submitted that letter along with the summary page from each statement for the last 6 months along with an LOE with this explanation. I see my GCMS notes indicate POF met.

I used the same letter and it worked. If you want, just attach the 6 months online statements.

I called them and read out all the requirements. They sent me a letter with this information for each account:
Type of account, Account ending, Current balance, Average balance, Date opened
It was not signed, but was on a letterhead. They made an error at first, and the second time I convinced them to send me a scan using "secure email".
That worked fine. I think you only need statements if your bank would not provide average balance numbers.
Update: I also submitted an explanation letter where I mentioned that currency is USD. The letter was needed, since all my past employers failed to meet some of the requirements in reference letters, so i had to upload extra documents.

Thanks everyone. Based on your comments I contacted BOA and requested them for a letter that indicates my average balance for last 6 months across all my accounts , my account opening date and my current account balance.

I will also attach PDFs of my online bank statements.

BOA said they would be happy to issue me such a letter, and they are willing to send it across electronically as well.

I just was having trouble getting through to the right customer care person.

Same question, are the 6 months statements needed? It seems some people on this thread submitted the statements and some did not.
Not sure if needed or a unnecessary?

No, 6 months statements are not needed. Just make sure that 6 months average balance appears in the letter

Not needed, but you can submit those to be on the safer side. You can get those easily from online banking.
