This might be a stupid question but how are background checks completed?

Will Canada consult with other countries where someone have not lived? For instance U.S.A?
The reason I ask is because if applicants have to get Police clearances from all countries lived stating that they have no criminal record, who or what agencies or countries are Canada consulting with in addition?

Not all information shows up in criminal records checks. For example, if you are a war criminal or a participant in organized crime or terrorism, those things may not show up in a criminal records check. This is done by CSIS.

@computeergeek, do you mind sharing how you got the "CSIS" link to appear like that instead of the full URL, please and thanks? :)

Hello
They do the security background check only in canada and my country or they do it in USA too and EUROPE?

They check your information against ALL countries, if there is a match with either your name or date of birth or even fingerprints, they look deeper.

Background checks are done for every country you declared you lived in (I believe for at least 6mons).

Thats what I thought too.

Didnt know they checked ALL countries!

Read some of the Federal court cases about misrepresentation and fraud. I read one where the applicant had lived in Italy but did not include it in his application. CIC found out by checking with the Italian authorities. How? Your guess is as good as mine.

Hey guys

I have some questions... my application has a staus "further background verifications " since sep 2011 after returned my pp back without a visa issuance. and before 2 months I redid the medical again.

Is there any chance for refusal after medical? And how long it will take as average after medical done ?

If refusal, is there any chance for appeal ?? And how ??

All replies would be highly appreciated.
Thx a lot in advanced

My question is:
I got charged for assault in Feb., 2008. My case was withdrawn, and I totally didn't think about destroying the fingerprints before getting out of Canada.
Could that represent a problem if they request a RCMP background?
And could I request the destruction of the prints from outside of Canada?

Cheers.

They will not issue a visa until background checks are completed and satisfactory. It's possible to be refused after medicals if they find out new adverse information. No idea how long it takes.
If refused and you can proof that the officer made a mistake, you may win an appeal.

You are welcome and I meant to say they will not issue a "visa" until background checks are completed and satisfactory.
