My background check status changed in myCIC
In progress => Not needed at this time

On the same day, ECAS dates were updated to actual dates.

Could anyone tell me what it means ?

it means the status is more accurate now

Are you implying that before when they changed it to In Progress, they did it for fun ?? ;D

As I am writing this post, I received a mail saying that my application has been updated.

Wonder if its this update or there would be one in 24 hours as many have said. :-\

Not for fun but they are structuring their ECAS system to sync with EE.
In EE medical is the first thing they are checking

Previously it was working based on paper applications where it made sense to start processing after application received and then go for the medical since medical came after the basic processing was complete

#i am feb 2016 pnp applicant. medicals done upfront last year and it shows medicals passed.

My background check earlier was - in progress
after that it changes to - Not needed at this time
and this month march 2017 it changes to - not applicable
Can someone plz help me i am worried whether it is a good sign for further process or i need to worry about anything.

Even my BG changed from NN to NA this week. This may be in line with the updated application status. No need to worry..
