Hi,

This may sound complicated. My wife and I came to Canada as PR and lived and worked here for 3 years and then I was posted to the mid east as an expat with my Canadian company for 3 years. We live there now.

Last year my wife was pregnant and went to India to have the baby.

Within 3 months we got the call for citizenship and took the oath - (without baby, left with in laws).

I will return to Canada by the end of this year. Wife is in India due to health complications. Now how should I go about getting papers for the child so we can all return together to Canada.

Do I apply to the local embassy in the mid east/India or in govt dept in Canada? - which govt dept?

Should I apply for citizen ship for child or sponsor? Can I apply for citizenship of child?

How much time will each route take?

thank you!

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
If you were not yet a citizen when you had the baby, I think you can not apply for citizenship for it right away, you need to sponsor it for PR and then you can apply for citizenship for it. Ask at the embassy to make sure. Sponsoring babies for PR is supposed to be really fast.

thank you for reply. I got in touch with the embassy and they replied :

"while I can apply for sponsorship even though i am not a resident of Canada, they have the final say on deciding if i mean to stay in canada. as proof of my seriousness they can ask to cancel my resident visa in the country i live now or even ask me to resign from my current job!!!!!!!!!!! Even though I mentioned that this is an expat posting for 2 years from my Canadian co, and I go back this year".

I have to go back to Canada by September. Should I simply ask for a visit visa for my baby and bring her in and then ask for PR. Would that negatively affect her chances of getting a PR?

I just want to bring my baby back asap and we are both citizens. I had no idea this would be so tough .
