Hi,

We landed year ago and returned back after obtaining PR cards. We changed our one of baby name who is with us not in Canada. I got new birth certificate for him and his name has been changed on his passport. Let's assume that a year later we whole family going to move to Canada, my question is how my baby can travel on the same PR card as he has different names on passport and PR card?

I have no idea how to resolve this issue. Please help me as soon as possible as matter is urgent.

Regard,

You should contact the embassy for advice but if you bring all your proof of name change, a copy of the old paperwork and then the new passport and birth certificate, you should be able to prove as you enter Canada that this is the same baby whose PR card that is. Once you are in Canada, you can apply for a new PR card for the baby with the new name by sending all the documents about the name change.

Hi Leon,

Thanks for your prompt information. I definitely will contact Canadian embassy here. My worry is, local immigrant offices here check passport details, valid Canadian visa or PR card before they allow passenger for boarding. In this case my baby PR has old name on it and his passport shows some new name which could create big problem. Is there any way that I could get new PR card from authority for my baby with new name to avoid any problem?

Regard.

You need to show all the name change documents to the airline as well to be able to board the plane. You should contact the airline and ask about that. Preferably in writing or email so you get an email back you can show later when you want to board the plane. If they say it will be a problem, you can not get a PR card from outside Canada but it is possible that you can get a PR travel document for the baby with the new name from the embassy.

First ask the airline, then ask the embassy.
