Baby Delivery

My wife is planning to deliver her baby in Quebec where her relatives reside. Will she be eligible to enter to Canada in her 8 months' pregnancy if we got the visit visa. We are both Lebanese.

Will the baby get the Canadian citizenship if he is born there? And how much does it cost for normal baby delivery or C-section?

We applied for the visit visa and mentioned that we are travelling together but my wife will go ahead of me in 1 month. Will they let her enter to Quebec or the immigration police has other sayings about this?

Your kind help is much appreciated.

Thank You

There is no guarantee she will be allowed into Canada and having a visitor visa does not guarantee entry. Whether she is allowed into Canada or not is up to the immigration official she encounters when entering Canada. Women who are pregnant and appear to be coming to Canada to give birth here are sometimes refused and sent home. So unfortunately it's impossible for any of us to answer this question.

Yes - the baby will be a Canadian citizen if born here.

I would budget $10K for the delivery to be safe. Note that if there are complications, the costs can be much higher.

Immigration may or may not ask why your wife is traveling alone. Again, it's not possible for any of us to say.

It depends on when your wife is due and when she is going to Canada.
Winter time is best because she can hide her pregnancy under many layers of clothes.
Looking pregnant to the officer at the POE will result in her denying entry.
Another question, are you applying from Lebanon? have you given your biometrics yet?
Make sure that she also hide her pregnancy when she goes for biometrics.
Also traveling on her own, the officer might get suspicious.
Good luck

Come on, please. Let's not try to give tips on how to bypass immigration and do the whole, anchor baby thing. It's one thing to lie on your visitor visa application because you just want to spend more time with your spouse, but its another thing to lie to give your newborn Canadian citizenship. And the border guards aren't stupid, they will know if she's pregnant or not just by her behaviour, the way she walks, the sudden bulge in her belly, the fact she mysteriously has $10,000 in cash. Or if she's walking through a metal detector, and they detect a slight bit of metal, forcing her to take off her clothes, then they see this huge protruding belly.

The right thing for the OP to do would be for one or both of them to apply as permanent residents through proper channels, then add the baby as an accompanying dependent.

The guy said that he already applied for the visit visa. Now he is worried that his wife will be denied entry. I am not trying to "give tips to bypass immigration". Maybe the guy doesn't want to immigrate to Canada. he just wants his child to get the Canadian citizenship. And no, the officers at the port of entry are not stupid. But with the situation as it is in Lebanon now, I don't blame him for taking the risk and sending his wife to deliver in Canada.

Usually we try to give advice under two principles regardless of personal/country situation: honesty and legality.

Giving advice on how to deceive Canada Immigration is not honest, therefore if you must do it at least do it via a Private Message. We all understand you want to help but please keep this private.

There is a misunderstanding a lot of people have on giving birth as a visitor. The government is primarily concerned about the hospital bill rather than the baby receiving Canadian citizenship if the father is not already a Canadian citizen. If your wife has complications from the delivery or the baby is born premature, she can be kept in the hospital for weeks or months costing more than 20k. Also they are concerned the visitor will stay in Canada longer than 6 months if complications happen with the baby plus obtaining the babys birth certificate and passport in a time so the mother can depart Canada before 6 months.

If she is entering at 8 months pregnant they will most likely have a problem with it due to health risks and cost. A pregnant women is not supposed to be traveling on an air plane after 7-8 months. In this case they may not allow her to re-board the plane if refused entry which creates another problem. If they say nothing then all the luck to you. In the province of Quebec it takes 15-20 days minimum to receive the baby birth certificate after they are born plus extra time to apply for a Canadian passport to return to Lebanon.
