hello. My husband and I are naturalized Canadians. I was expecting and in the 26th week of pregnancy we went to Pakistan for a family wedding. There I unexpectedly went into labour and delivered a baby. Since he is a preemie it took a while for him to get better but he is still in hospital care. Now I need to apply for his citizenship. I am wondering how many people have experienced DNA testing requirement for citizenship for children born abroad ? Since he is in care he cannot leave a hospital. Any thoughts here ? Your help will be truly appreciated.

Thank you.

I saw some info about it online. Hence the question. Since I wasnam planning to deliver in pakistan I am worried that local high commission may make it a problem for me.

My son was born outside Canada and by birth was a Canadian citizen. All we had to do was take his birth certificate and copies and original of your Canadian passport and citizenship to the embassy. We received his new passport in less than a month and citizenship card in less than a year. You don’t need any of those DNA testing. The link you have mentioned above states that DNA testing is required where there are doubts. I am assuming if you have all the right documents and you are the parent it shouldn’t be an issue.

This was in Kuwait. Assuming each country has different processing time. It could be 6 months or less. The embassy staff are extremely helpful and guide you through the whole process.
