We applied for my wife's Canadian permanent residency almost 2 years ago (I am a Canadian citizen) and it we just got the work that her appointment to have it finalized will be in the first week of December (yay, finally!). But now after all the effort, waiting and cost my company is posting me to work in the UK for possibly 5 years or more (she will reside with me the entire time we are there of course). I have just applied for my visa to the UK (ancestry) and for my wife as a dependent.

My question is, is there even any point in trying to complete getting her PR next month or will it simply get cancelled when I go to work in the UK or will it require her to come back to Canada every 6 months (or similar) to ensure she can keep it? I dread the thought of us going to work in the UK for a few years only to come back to Canada and have to go through the entire process again (whether we apply outland from the UK or inland once we arrive in Canada).

If she can keep her PR how do we notify the gov that she will be abroad with me? Should we mention this at the final interview or not?

Has anyone had a similar situation that can provide some advice in this area?
Appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Additional question: how soon after the final interview, if approved, does all the final paperwork and residency card come through?

Are you a Canadian citizen? If so, then time spent with you abroad counts towards her days required to keep her PR.

Canada might have a confusing immigration system, but they have pretty mellow residency requirements. One of the things that make it so nice (as keesio said) is that if you are a Canadian citizen, your partner's time abroad living with you counts towards residency!

So, did she apply inland and this is the landing interview in Dec? There is no need to mention living abroad at the interview as it's irrelevant at a landing interview. If this is the other, "red flag" kind of interview, I highly suggest holding off on your trip until her PR is finalized.

I agree that if this is the regular landing appointment/interview, meaning that she has already received a DM email and a landing letter, there's no need to disclose the move.

It will take ~ 45 days for her to receive the PR Card, which is the last piece of the puzzle.
