Avoiding expensive translation

As you all know, for submitting a family class sponsorship for spouse, it's almost a requisite to provide proof of the relationship. It may include emails, etc, that should be translated into English or French. The same happen with other official documents.

I've asked for translation of a few documents and the prices are very high. 5 pages could be around 150$

The official page doesn't says you need an official translation done by a member of an organization of translator.
Another possibility if that somebody make the translation and take an oath that the translation is fine.

That maybe cheaper to do.
Do people actually use this way?
Is it better to mix translation by officials with other by non-collegiated?

PS: Suppose your canadian spouse know people who can do the translation in Canada. They would take the oath.

PS: Suppose your canadian spouse know people who can do the translation in Canada. They would take the oath.

You only need an authorized translator to translate the official documents. For personal communication/letters/etc you can do it yourself.

You need certified translations (not done by your family) for your official documents (birth certificates, etc.).

The does not refer to unofficial stuff like relationship proofs. You can translate those yourself.

$150 sounds pretty average. That's around what we paid to have a few things translated.

For official documents, get an official translator. For things like emails, you can get an unofficial translator. Still try to make it look official - whoever does it should include an affidavit that it is a true translation, for example. This person could be a friend. Ideally it would not be yourself or someone in your family, but people have done this and been accepted. It partly depends how much other evidence you have - if you have a lot, then a few emails won't make much difference.

You could also get only a few emails translated, then show your inbox with all the emails. Include a note saying you have many more emails, and if the visa officer needs more proof the relationship is genuine, you can send them in. The visa officer usually asks for more proof if he or she feels there is not enough.
