The most effective way to get this information is to use the data published by the Open Data Project.

Bold9900,

It seems like a real struggle to just get your spouse to live with you. Aint this quite bad? I am not married but intend doing so very soon. How can something so simple get so complicated and take like a year to be processed. Its saddening to know...

Kind Regards,
Nick

A year? Some VOs post 80% times that are beyond two years - and those often have 50% rejection rates. According to the CIC figures released last month 17% of outland spousal applications are rejected - so 1 in 6 are rejected. I haven't seen figures indicating how many of them are reversed on appeal and of course CIC wouldn't know in how many of these the sponsor just gives up and moves to live with the spouse.

Computergeek,

So what happens to someone like me who really intends to begin a new life in Canada with my spouse after marriage? I do not actually understand this.... Im sure there have been enough bogus cases which has made the government act accordingly, but as i said, what happens to a person like me?

I intend to begin a new life, a new future and this news isnt welcoming to me at all.

Kind Regards,
Nick

Nobody who has to go through this process likes it particularly well - but it is a political problem more than anything else. CIC does prioritize spousal sponsored applications, but the days of 4 month processing is long gone. As far as I can tell, no process meets CIC's published goal of completing sponsored spousal applications in 6 months time. With recent cost cutting measures processing times seem to be rising, not declining.

If I sound harsh please understand that I don't agree with the current process, I'm merely trying to describe it in greater detail. The published figures that CIC puts on the website are the time it takes to complete 80% of applications. For simpler cases the 50% data is more useful, but they don't publish that on the CIC website any longer - the information is in the open data project.

The FASTEST way through a sponsored spousal application these days is to have someone inside CIC pushing your application, but that's not going to happen typically. Otherwise, the best thing to do is to put together a polished complete application. Right now they have outland stage 1 time down to just over a month (it was 3.5 months in the spring). Then the application gets sent to the visa office abroad where it is processed by the officer(s) within that office. From what I can tell the time to process any given application is still highly variable, suggesting that internally CIC uses multiple processing queues - like picking one checkout lane at the market. Some are faster than others.

If there is anything in your file that creates an exception condition, it gets pulled out of the main processing queue and moves to a different queue. Thus, a VO might look at your file and decide something falls outside their remit and places it in the queue of a more senior/experienced VO. That slows down the process. Hence my earlier suggestion: have a complete, polished application. If the first VO to pick it up can look at it and conclude everything needed is present she or he can order a security check, which is basically the last step in the process. When the security check comes back, the application is done and the next step is the passport request.

Hey guys,

Wondering if anybody can help me here. I am currently going through London and going by last years statistics for my VO there is a 50% chance of being processed within the 1st 4 months and a 50% chance of being processed outside those 4 months. What I would like to know is, CIC on there VO processing time schedule account for 80% of all applications, what happens with the other 20%, where are their stat's and what were their processing time. Or is it some form of tolerance that is given. Confused where the "other" 20% disappear to!!

I can vouch that super quick processing time still happens. My fiancee just did her landing yesterday, and through the common-law route we went from mailing our application to receiving the CoPR in the mail, in exactly 4 months flat. So i think with a simple app with no red flags, and an efficient visa office (and a ton of good luck)... it can still be done!

Well, at the time we applied it was 3.5 months just for sponsor approval. It took 3 additional months for CPP-O to approve in our case which given the timing was blazing fast. But it's the exception these days, not the norm.
