Hello,

My Canadian boyfriend is sponsoring me via spousal sponsorship for PR.
I understand you have to pay for medical, police checks etc. separately but

1) on average what is the total cost you have to pay to immigrate (application for sponsorship and application for PR)

I just want to have an idea what the whole process is going to cost me.

Thank you

This is what I paid:

$1040 for application package
$180 for medical exam
$50 for X-Ray
$40 for blood and urine test
$25 for German police clearance
$25 for police clearance translation into English
$55 for Canadian police clearance
$40 for all the passport pictures
$60 for 3 statutory declarations (I paid the lawyer fees for my friends)
---------
total of $1515
+ costs for printing the documents, copies etc.

Everything on top of the basic app fees of $1040 really just depends on the applicant. Medicals can be between $200 -$400 or more if you have to travel to get to a panel doc. Some police certs are free, most are not. Costs more to mail an app from Europe or Australia than from within Canada. Translating and certifying foreign docs can be pretty expensive.

My partner: a British person living in north England and has lived in Australia, France and NZ, his police certs were about $110 (France and NZ were free), medical was about $350, postage and other costs was around $120. So we paid about $1620

We are common-law, so we had to get 2 notarized letters to support our relationship from our families but they insisted on paying for those.

Applying from London

Medicals £300 (although that was because additional test . Otherwise £250)
Application $1040
Passport photos £10
Notorised statements were free done in Canada
Posting in a 5kg application from UK to Missisauaga £30 FedEx
UK Police certificate. We paid expedited so it was about £60/80 I believe
150 Photos printed at Costco £6
Ink cartridge and paper for above application £10

Applied from London

Application $1040
Medical £280
Photos £15
Notarised statements £15 (applied common-law)
Signed-for and tracked posting of the package £57
UK police certificate £30 (I think)
Misc (printing, etc) £20ish

I think that was most of it... looks like everyone here has paid roundabout $1600 total.

Just as an FYI for people who need to send docs and parcels check out the likes of parcel2go. Like I said ours was sent FedEx next day and was under £30 for a heavy 5kg box

Just out of curiosity, why did you send a DVD? I'm sure that I read that they would not accept anything other than paper documents..

Definitely do not send a DVD, it says explicitly not to!!

It's in IMM3910:

Note: Photos must be loose. Do not send them in binders, albums, frames or other such containers.
Do not send video discs or video cassettes. Do not send musical greeting cards or other similar
documents containing electronic or mechanical devices.

Hahaha autocorrect on my iPhone doh. Amended to 'docs'

You can pay online or at a bank. It's explained on the CIC website. Read the guide carefully.

$75 are for the sponsorship application, $475 are for the immigration application and $490 are the right of permanent resident fee. You have to pay all of these fees but you can pay the $490 later on if you want to. It can slow down the process a little bit that's why most of the people pay the full amount at once
