Availability of Jobs During Winter

Hi Experts,

I have heard that there will be a scarcity of jobs in canada during the winter season. Is it true?

If yes, why is it so? :-\

yes less jobs as lot of hotels and other things close in winter .....like out door dining etc.... also less factory work in packing fruits or vegetables gets reduced , farm work reduces etc . either way u cannot work till end of winter as u wont get a OCWP by the end of winter sem even if u join in fall.

Without jobs it would be hard to survive, hence, I have thought of applying for Fall intake 2014...

either way u cannot work for 6 months that would be illegal ....

I did check with my consultant regarding the off campus work permit in the first six months and he said "Starting Jan 2014 students would be allowed to work off campus right from the day 1, is it not true?"

Considering his word, I felt like applying for Jan 2014 intake...

u can only work 20 hrs per week and do not expect to pay ur tution fees from part time work....also avoid quebec as it is difficult to find part time jobs here unless u know french .

Fortunately, Quebec is not on my list

I mostly want to go for colleges in and around Toronto as I came to know it has more jobs than any other city.

You will find temporary work in the months leading up to Christmas. Lots of retail stores need additional cashiers and stockers. This could be perfect part time work for students.

Any idea when would first, second semester start and end?

I have a feeling the first starts in Jan and ends in April and the second starts in May and Ends in August and the rest of the time for Holidays and Project. Is that right?

Yeah they are changing the rules most probably and one more thing just want to tell you that in their changes they will stop providing PGWP ......

I am having hard time digesting it as firstly they say they are in need to talented people to help them grow and now if they dont want to issue work permit who can they fill in the employment opportunities?

Its like my lawyer told that from this Jan 2014 , One can work right away after Landing in Canada. But they will not issue PGWP after studies. It could be rumor but we have to wait till jan to get the finalised decisions. People here truck drivers are getting PR very easily but Software professionals have to work hard to get PR. I faced these situations i know. But we can't change anything afterall .
