US and Canada share entry exit records. If you check your electronic I-94 at CBP website, you will see exit record from when you enter Canada with Canadian post's number on it. Even airlines share the information with CBP, so exits are automatically logged.

Landing & AVR Experience -

We decided to do our landing via land. The landing process was smooth. Reached the border at noon. Was just asked for COPR and passports and was asked basic questions and then asked to sign the COPR documents. The whole process took about 30. All the immigration officials were pleasant.

Drove to a town in Canada for Lunch & then headed back to US in a couple hours. I was using AVR (Visa Stamp expired 3 years ago) & my wife had a valid H1B Stamp. The US Border agents were equally pleasant. I did have to park my car and go into the office to get a new paper I-94. Just basic questions asked, like where do you work, how long was your trip etc. The process was very smooth.

Overall a very pleasant and smooth experience on both sides of the border. Hope this helps someone!

Did they make you go to the office or did you ask for it?

Hey guys,
I am on H1B ending in Feb 2020 and have no intention to renew it + Canadian PR holder. I may have to visit India in near future and it looks like I may not have much time there and have to come back so there isn't time left to do the stamping process.

I am planning to visit Canada and take a flight to India, finish my work, come back to Toronto and then back to the US. Hoping that this way I don't have to worry about stamping and will re-enter the US on ARV.

I have high doubts about this. Can anyone advise, please?

Thanks.

You will need a stamp in this scenario. For AVR, travel has to be within North America and no other countries in between whatsoever.

Hi pritparikh15,

While researching online about Peace Arch Border crossing, I came to know that it is the border crossing from Seattle - Vancouver. I'm currently in Seattle and need to land in Canada by 3rd week of July. Can you please let me know what all questions they have asked while coming back. I have an expired F1 visa and an approved H1 I-797A.

Thanks,
Rohit

Hello Guys,
I am also on same boat, So they allow you to cross border right with expired F1 visa and approved i797 without h1 staming on passport?

Yes technically it is allowed under the automatic visa revalidation program.
But the current state is unknown, I called detroit border they told me will allow H1B's to cross, but when I called later the CBP officer said no I can only fly from Canada -> US :(
