Hi, Were you able to get an answer to this?

I have read some posts in movnorth community about people who used AVR using American Airlines flying to Toronto. But not for any land border AVR since March this year.

Hi All, I am wondering if traveling back to US from Canada on H1 is allowed under COVID restrictions? Has anyone done it yet? What if you have a US citizen child?

Hello guys,
Just an update. I landed at Toronto on May-14, competed my quarantine and returned back to US using AVR on May-29 without any issues.
Only two questions were asked from me by CBP:
1. Type of Visa.
2. Duration of stay in Canada.

No, it was expired H1B.

I am planning to do the same, but due to the restriction of only allowing US PR/Citizens to enter US, I don't know how to complete my landing now... did that affect you at all? Can you share more details on your trip and what documentation you brought with you to complete the landing? I am an expired H1b visa holder as you.

Hi, I'm not aware of any US inbound restrictions till now, the only restriction I'm aware of is the non essential travel (tourism, leisure). I did not faced any issue while traveling back, but yes, there are rumors that there may be restriction for H1B later, so plan accordingly.

Only document needed was passport and I797.

Yes, nobody asked about my nationality.
Purpose of travel for Canada was "immigration".
Purpose of travel for US, they did not asked actually as I had H1B, so they just asked my employer.

Does visa officer call employer to verify employment when returning to US on AVR (land or air)? I plan to travel in July but there may be job termination in August.

on a normal day, they don't go that extent. But you never know.. better to go when you are employed as you are required to have a job to enter in H1b anyways.

Thru July you should be OK, but that totally depends upon the officer and his mood.

Congratulations on the successfully landing and returning back to U.S! I have the similar situation and plan to do a soft landing in later July. I have a question about the self-quarantine. Does the quarantine means strictly staying inside hotels/airbnb for the 14-days? I read that the they will need the quarantine plan including information about how will you get health care if needed, may I ask what kind of information did you provide for that part?
