Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this, but does U.S. driving history affect insurance rates in Canada?

I have had U.S. driving license for over 5 years, and I had one at-fault accident 4 years ago. It seems in Canada claims stay on records for at least six years, and I did some online quotes for insurance in Ontario, the rates is really really high...

If anyone could clarify or have experience getting reasonable insurance rate in Ontario, please share!

Thanks all!

I had to present my US insurance history and driving abstract to get car insurance in Alberta.
Yes, car insurance is more expensive in Canada than the US.

I used Statefarm in the U.S. and Desjardins in Ontario had the best rate, not because Statefarm in Canada is Desjardins now though! Yes, your U.S. driving history matters in obtaining insurance here as your U.S. drivers license history matters in obtaining one in Canada.
