Hello and greetings.

I am looking at applying to return to Canada to finish my last year of studies at Ottawa.
I was removed last year December through an exclusion order for 1 year and currently looking at sending my application via the VFS here in Lagos.

I do have an history with immigration as i have lived in Canada since 2004 as an international student with the sponsorship of my father and renewed my study permit and work permit a few other time between 2004 to 2012.

I am not sure of my chances of getting approved but I cannot think why I would be declined so I am on here for some feedback.

My admission letter is dated January 2013 for full time studies at Carleton.
I applied while in Ottawa as a transfer student. Although I got this admission under a period when i was trying to restore my expired study permit not renew (didnt know there was a difference then. Now i know).
Processing time took longer than normal for the restoration and I got declined and was sent back. Got a lawyer involved in the situation and it got all too messy.
I have enough funds to go back and finish up my last year of the degree program, I have my information from Immigration and CBSA through the access to information act showing i have no criminal record whatsoever for all the years spent and I have gotten my ARC Letter written detailing the whole incident. I will be applying as a returning student so the processing time should be shorter (about 6 weeks) or enough for me to make for the fall semester.
Only issue is the matter of registration/ enrollment. Registration starts June 23 but that time window would be short for me to send the application by then in case i have to do medicals. But i know my case would be stronger if the registration is done and fees have already been paid then again it might look too presumptuous of me to go that far already. I'm just 2nd guessing it all but wanna be careful. All i can offer them is my admission for 2013, the visa letter from the school and my timetable of courses for the fall and winter semester.

Any word or advice would be beneficial.

thank you.

hi casper89,

I'm sorry to say this......your case doesn't look good at all.
reasons?
-you were under a study permit in Canada from 2004-2012 and were not able to complete your studies? (shows lack of progress and commitment)
-you're using an old admission letter from January 2013 (not current proof you are re-admitted)
-you have not even enroll or paid a deposit on your tuition (lack of commitment)

all of the above may tell the CIC agent that you have no intentions of leaving Canada if they allow you in again as a "student".

Thanks for the reply Jbrown.

I should add then that I entered as a grade 12 student and graduated, got admitted to a 3-year college program and graduated with a diploma in chemical technology then transfered to Carleton for the chemistry degree program and in my final year of it. there were a few lost years as i was at other universities and did not do well at those universities plus some health issues i had to deal with that i can prove as well.
If i can provide transcripts along with my application then that would help my case?

In terms of enrollment, are you saying i should wait till registration and pay the fees in full or atleast 1 semester to show more of a commitment rather than just saying i have the funds? If i am declined visa how i would i get the money back that is paid to the school?

hello casper89,

Well, if you have valid reasons for not making progress in your studies and that got you into trouble (exclusion order), with your Visa application I would add a letter to CIC explaining your intentions to finish your degree. I think that a sincere letter to them would be a good way to explain facts that cannot be captured in application forms.

If I were you, I would contact the University, re-apply and get a more current Admission letter, I would register for my courses and pay at least a deposit on the tuition. If your Study Visa gets refused, I'm sure the University can send you the money back (minus any admin fee) to your bank account or credit card.

...yes, I supposed you can send your transcripts with your application to support your letter (if you decide to send one). Good luck!

Thanks again Jbrown. Will try to contact the school about getting a more current admission letter or a certificate of enrollment after registration.
As well as contacting the school students' account department on the process of returning school fees.

No harm in trying to get some clarity and move on in life.
