Just curious: why do Kiwis and Aussies want to come to Canada? Is it just to be with Canadian spouses? Otherwise, NZ and Ausralia seem like very nice places to live.

@toby

I think for the most part it's to be with Canadian spouses. My boyfriend and I met 3 yrs ago when we were both living in the UK, when we decided to leave and move "home" we picked Canada because he had never been (i had lived a year in australia.) and my parents are a great deal older than his and we thought it best to be closer to my family with visits to australia. good in theory but the job market is horrible here....sort of wishing we picked australia now! will have a wait for his PR here though now :-)

tobi - it is to be with our Canadian other halves. Mine has a great pension and other stuff going, so it is better for us to stay here than go back to Aus. Also, the PR process is easier here...

On other news - i sent off my application on 04/10/12 to be recieved in Vegrieville on Tuesday.. Now my wait has begun!!!

Tobi I am also here for my partner. I came here three and a half years ago on a working holiday with the intention of staying only one year. haha whoops. We decided to stay in Canada as he has only just started his own company which is doing really well and the job market in Calgary is way better for me once I get PR than it will be back home in NZ. Also, I am from Christchurch and the earthquakes wiped out a lot of the city and there is really no point in moving back there - I would rather leave the jobs for those who can't leave town.

same reason with the above... hubby is Canadian and has a good job so he can support me if we are to start a family...

anyway, I have received an email from Sydney VO saying interview is waived, and requesting for the police checks... so yeah... definitely they've touched my file. :)

Awesome news MinieJ!

I hope I'm not too far behind. I emailed the VO a question about my app and they said it hasn't been screened by a visa officer yet. Since your 10 days ahead of me, I hope you get approved soon!

Ouch, I hear you. I had an asian country I had to get a report for as well and I needed to physically go back to get it. I actually delayed my application for a year because I couldn't be bothered pulling all the necessary police checks. It's only when I found out that they removed the requirement to get a police check from each state in the US that I bothered to apply. Good luck!

i know... i had to go back and get it last time, hoping it would last but well... we can't certainly beat our dear officers in asking for things like this.... :) i'm pulling all my resources to see if it can be done quicker this time, as I've just done one a few months back - certainly I can't committ any crime there without being there physically right?

And there's someone probably 10 days behind you :)

It was certainly heartening to hear that cansponsoringaussie landed. I'm quietly optimistic that we'll be approved within the next 2 months.

if i could get all my requested docs in... it shd be done soon. alas, how to urge the authorities in those countries to make it easier to obtain police checks????

My spouse had lived in New Zealand all his life and from a very young age he knew there was something else out there for him. It's an island - can't really go anywhere. The prospect of a bigger country to explore appeals to him :)

I know there are 2 sydney forums on here, so I will post this in both :-)

my boyfriend got an email yesterday saying our application was received in sydney and they gave him his own UCI number seperate from the one I got in the approval email. I guess this is our stage 2 AOR, which I didn't even know about!

Yeah, it's getting a bit annoying that we have two forums for Sydney applications. I wish we could just merge the two discussions. Good to hear that things are moving, figgy. Sydney seems pretty efficient and communicative.
