Australian on second IEC visa - insurance?

Hey all,

I am an Australia who has been residing in Vancouver for the last two years and my working holiday visa expires in 10 days at which point I am going to the land border to activate my second IEC visa (all paperwork has been done and I have my PoE letter).
To anyone else who has got their second working holiday visa, what company did you use for insurance? I have found most Australian insurance companies won't provide any for me since I have already been out of the country for two years and/or don't have proof of a plane ticket back to Australia.

If you're one of those people who have bought insurance just for the border check and then cancelled it since you have BC Healthcare who did you use? When I read the terms and conditions it seems that many of the insurance companies in both Australia and Canada won't provide a full refund if you purchase the insurance when you're already in Canada.

Could anyone provide me with some insight on what they did or who they bought their insurance with? It would be a great help, I need to sort this out in the next week so any input is appreciated. Thank you!

Thanks for your reply!

Have you actually done this yourself with World Nomads whilst in Canada? I only ask because in their terms it says you only get a full refund if your trip hasn't started yet and I would assume that buying it whilst I am already overseas would count as already being on my trip.

Here is what I did:

Bought the shortest possible cover (think it was two days) for about $50 for the day that you are crossing, you won't get this back as the policy has started by the time you go to refund.

Then bought two one year policies after that which are totally refundable - its all online, you don't need to fill in a questionnaire to cancel.
