Hi all, I've read lots of information but am still a little confused. I'd just like some confirmation if possible.

1. Outland - I apply for PR Outland by having both sponsorship forms(My partners) and Immigration forms(Myself) in the same application.

I have an expected wait time(as per the website), upon which I will "hopefully" recieve PR. I will not be able to work during this time. I must extend my visitors visa seperate to my PR application within 30 days of the previous visa expiring. and can extend visitors visa as often as I'd like till PR is recieved.

2. Inland - We apply for Inland by having both sponsorship forms(my partners) and immigration forms(Myself) in same application. I would also submit within the same application at this time for the Open work permit and do not need to extend my visitors visa as I'd be on implied status as long as the application is recieved.

When the first stage is through(6-7 months) My partner will be approved as a sponsor, and I will receive an OWP allowing me to apply for any job I wish. It is best not to leave the country and processing can take longer than inland.

I'd like to know if the above is correct? Also the only issue with outland processing from what I've read is that I may be called up for an interview in Sydney Australia. Are there any other potential concerns that would require me to fly back to Australia for processing an outland application other than the interview?

Is it definate that there is no way of working if you apply as an outlander, until PR is recieved?(Other than job sponsorship?). IE I cannot obtain an Open Work Permit, while being sponsered as an outlander?

Sorry if that's confusing, I'm really trying to decide which to go for, the earlier work visa, or the quicker overall processing time. I really do want to get back to working soon.

Thanks
Dame

Correct. There is no open work permit option with the outland sponsorship process. If you want to work before you become a PR, you'll need a job offer from an employer and an approved LMO.

Yes - if you apply outland you will have to separately extend your visitor's visa to remain in Canada. Note that there's no guarantee the extension will be approved however it's extremely likely it will be.

Outland processing times on the CIC web site represent how long it took them to complete processing for 80% of applications. This means a decent percentage get through faster or quite a bit faster.

Otherwise what you've summarized looks correct to me.

If you stay in Canada and apply outland via Australia , you just fly back to Australia if VO needs interview .... If you apply outland and you stay in Canada with your partner when the applications are still in processing then you can't work or get OWP till your PR is granted... If you want really back to work soon so just apply inland....

Well - it really depends on your case . Sydney is a really really fast office, and stage 1 is also quite fast for now. So you could actually be done in 7 months and have your PR.... I was done in 7 months, and that included a 3 months stage 1. I'm going through London, and Sydney and London have fairly similar approval rates - Sydney being even faster.

If you're Australian, and have a straightforward application, you won't probably be called for an interview. Very few people from visa-exempt country get called for an interview... so if it's your first sponsorship ( for both, your sponsor hasn't sponsored anybody before), and you have been together with your partner for quite a while, and you're living together now (which I assume is the reason why you are in Canada) then outland is probably the way to go because you could have your PR by the time you would get to first stage for Inland...

this is the Sydney spreadsheet for 2012 https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmVlTaJuxc5kdFlsVkRfVFVOTWtCYjVjdU9tR1o2aXc#gid=0 - you can see that stage 2 for now has taken between 74 days to 112. So roughly 2.5 months, or less, to a bit less than 4 months... if you add the stage 1 current times ( 35 days), you could be done much faster applying outland... and you can still travel during that time...if anything comes up for you outside of Canada during the time you have applied, if you're inland you can not go - well you can, but if you get refused entry to Canada, your application is abandoned and you have to start all over again.

Good luck with your application,
Sweden
