Australia to Canada as an Accountant

I am an enthusiast for moving to Canada through FSW pathway. I was born in India in 1984. I completed B.Com (2006) from University of Delhi in India. Received my ECA from WES in 2021 which equates my B.Com to Bachelor's degree (three years) in Canada. In addition to this I have Cost Accounting degree (certification?) (2009) from ICMAI (erstwhile, Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India) and Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting (2010) from Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK which I achieved through a special entry gateway through mutual recognition. I sat for one exam and passed it, landing me straight to Adv. Dipl. Management Accounting, CIMA.

I was an Associate member of ICMAI until recently but let my membership lapse this year because I had no use for it.

I moved to Australia about a decade ago and I have been a citizen of Australia for a few years now. My family situation has now changed as my brother is about to become eligible for Canadian citizenship and my parents recently moved to Canada on a Super Visa sposored by my brother.

I have a desire to reunite with my family so I am contemplating moving to Canada permanently at the age of almost 40. I have never been married. I did see a few rounds of invitation in the past that were as low as in 300s but I guess that party is long over now.

On that note, my points breakdown is as folows:

Factor - Points
Language - 24 (L-8, R-7, W-7, S-7, expected, see below*)
Education - 21 (Bachelor's Degree)
Experience - 15 (6 years or more in 111000 - Financial Auditors and Accountants)
Age - 7 (at 40 years old in March 2024)
Adaptability - 5 (brother related by blood in Canada on PR, eligible for citizenship in December 2023)
Total - 72 points

*Past IELTS score L-8, R-8, W-7.5, S-7.5 my IELTS Academic from 10 year ago for Australian PR

Points conversion to CRS will be about 384 - 396 depending on IELTS score.

Is there any 'Accountant' favouring PNP that will be open to someone like me? Without a job offer?

Any help will be highly appreciated.

To the best of my knowledge you would need to have a job offer in Canada or already be working in Canada on a work permit.

If immigrating to Canada is a top priority, then focus on learning French so that you can take the French language test and achieve the minimum scores. This would open up other options.

I tried to calculate my total score using the CRS calculator on the IRCC website with different scores in TCF. It seems the minumum scores to get any French language points will be

Speaking - 10-11
LIstening - 458-502
Reading - 453-498
Writing - 10-11

(The above gives me 62 points on CRS for French)

This seems to be above 50% of the highest mark one can score in each competency. I wonder if it would require any less than 1-2 years of study of the french language, perhaps, that too full time?

I did study French at Alliance Francaise back in 2012-13 for about 13 months along with a fulltime job and could only pass DELF A2 level.

I took TEF instead of TCF, I think 1-2 years part time is fine. But you've to be consistent and make sure you are using the right resources. Alliance Francaise is meh in Middle east and Asia, but do check with others from your region and see if Alliance Francaise is good enough.

I think TEF and TCF are nearly the same. Quebec however prefers TCF I think....??

1-2 years part time is still a long time. I am not sure if I want to wait that long.

Your parents are just visiting Canada and unless they have a PR application is process and are not guaranteed the ability to move permanently to Canada. There are very limited spots and a huge amount of demand. They are visitors and must qualify for supervisa insurance every year to continue visiting. Many seem to have interpreted the supervisa program as a permanent move to Canada when it is a visitor visa. Unless you have a job secured in Canada it will be tough to immigrate but also tough to likely find similar employment unless you worked for one of the large multinational accounting firms and have contacts. The economy is not great at the moment and many employers are not hiring. If you have good employment at the moment I would be reluctant to give that up without secured employment in Canada. Given your CRS score without a job offer or French you likely wouldn’t get selected and there have been very few draws for immigration programs so scores are increasing not decreasing.

I am not sure if I gave the impression that I think my parents have moved to Canada permanently when I used the words "...and my parents recently moved to Canada on a Super Visa sposored by my brother .", perhaps I did, however I am aware that it is just a Super (long visitor) Visa. We intend to have our parents in Canada for the complete stretch of first 5 years of this Super (long visitor) Visa so I do not think qualifying "for supervisa insurance every year to continue visiting." would be a problem.

Now regarding my desired move to Canada, unfortunately, no I do not work for a multinational, so I do not have any contacts in the network of the mighty high rises of the white collar world. I do confess that I am reluctant to a small degree to move to Canada which has more to do with the fact that I own an apartment (on mortgage) in Australia, have a fairly stable job in my NOC (Accounting), even though with a small-medium sized business, do not have to drive Uber or have to do any wait staff work (no disrespect but I am almost 40 and can't/won't do that work now) and the public services in Australia are mostly better than that in Canada, may it be public transport, banking, or employment related benefits like annual leaves. We get 13.33 hours (roughly 1.5 days) worth of annual leave accrual per month. In Canada you get 10 per year I guess? We have 10% GST standard throughout Australia, and so much more.

The reasons I want to move to Canada are basically, to be closer to family (first and foremost), I like colder cllimate, I do not want to remain in a country that is in the middle of nowhere, I feel very lonely in Australia and the schedule of seasons feel so weird. Dec - Feb are the months of summer!

Unless you have a crystal ball and can predict if one of you parents will get sick during their visit and have to make an expensive claim on their supervisa insurance there is no way in knowing if they will be able to obtain supervisa insurance every year and at whether it will be affordable If your parent has a has a heart attack for example and submits a large claim (hopefully under 100k but it can be quite easy to accumulate a large bill in healthcare these days) then insurance companies will be reluctant to insure the parent for the next year. You have to get a new supervisa policy every year so insurance companies can assess any changes in a parent’s health. At a very minimum premiums will likely increase dramatically and not cover pre-existing conditions but you could also end up with no supervisa insurance options. Without a a year supervisa policy you no longer qualify to stay in Canada on a supervisa. Many families also think that after 5-7 years they will leaveCanada for a a week and the return for another visit for 5-7 years. If it appears the parents are attempting to live in Canada and no longer have ties to their home country they can be denied entry or given a short visit before they are expected to reestablish their lives in their home country and after living in their home country for a certain period of time consider another visit to Canada. We haven’t actually seen the full impact of the recent increase in length of supervisa. When parents could only visit for 6 months and more recently 2 years there was less confusion about this being a visit versus a permanent move. The government should have clarified this from the start because even with a 2 year visit some parents and children were shocked when they no longer could extend their visit to Canada and the parents were expected to return home

Unfortunately you hav3 to try and qualify for the existing immigration programs. Given the economy and headwinds facing many economies I would be very hesitant to leave a stable job without another similar job secured.
