My PR will expire on Mar 30 2023. So I assume I should apply after June 30 this year.
I'm going to wait a bit (mine expires in Aug 2023). Per current processing times, its only 60 days for a renewed card - no point doing it so far in advance and risk it messing with the citizenship application. We may not need to renew PR cards just yet. IMO.

There is no "risk" in applying for a PR card while you have a citizenship application going on.

How would it mess with the citizenship application? Just curious, because I have both in the works right now.

Some inferences based on Toronto/Scarbrough location entries from the google sheet.
  • Paper applicants
    • Oath ceremonies for August'21 paper applicants are being set up for June'22.
    • Oath ceremonies for most June-July'21 paper applicants were completed by May'22.
  • Online applicants
    • Oath ceremonies for July'21 online applicants are being set up for June'22.
    • Oath ceremonies for most May-June'21 online applicants were completed by June'22
At this pace, a good number of Toronto August applicants who have their BG completed earlier than May can expect oath letters and ceremonies in June to mid-August 2023 period.

I am optimistic here. Hope IRCC can keep improving their timelines in all regions.

I also see a few 2020 applicants stuck after completing their BG, test in early 2022 and still waiting for updates. I really hope their applications also reach the final stages and finally find relief.
