Did you fill everything same like work exp and residence info as you had in PR file?
Yeah but I kept it simple and answered the questions to the point. Also only common thing between this application and the PR application was the last job I had and my residential address back home (within 5 years) before coming to Canada. Rest of the work exp. and residential addresses etc. was within Canada ..

Do you mean : Background check - IN PROCESS
I am in the same situation agent told me background check is complete . However on new app it shows IN PROCESS .
Yes thats right.

Also my MPs office called me yesterday and told me the same thing. They said background check is complete and criminality checks are ongoing, and that they currently do not have a time frame for completion however that they are working through as fast as possible.

How do you reach to MP office to check the status of file? Did you get FP request too

I did not get FP request, the IRCC agent I spoke with some weeks ago also did not mention anything about FP.

First step is to find out who your MP is in the riding where you live.

I sent them a formal email with the following details requesting them to follow up on my behalf and provide an update;

Name & Surname
DOB
Citizenship Application #
Date applied
Country of Birth
Address
Telephone #

I got a response same day from the clerk that they will follow up and get back to me within 2 weeks and they called me to inform me that they enquired and mentioned what the agent mentioned.

Based on these CIC stats, the process rates have slowed down drastically of late. Considering their pandemic level capacities in Aug/Sep 2020, clearly their current priorities are elsewhere.

20 years AFAIK.

However, these are exceptional cases and don't generally happen to most of us. I would suggest assuming your application will take 18 months from the date of submission (given the current delays) to be processed to avoid disappointment. If it gets processed before that, then that's good!

This case is not a benchmark for regular applicants…

@Caroline1234 The longest I’ve seen regular applicants waiting is 2 years.

Hi Fellas, I called IRCC a month ago and they mentioned my file is in transit to the local office and then again I called this morning and my file is at Sydney. These are guys are a joke, I don't know why they are doing this or is this intentiional to confus the applicants. :(

The more you call them, the more you get confused and more stressed you become. Going through your MP office may help sometimes. You can ask a specific question and with little luck you may actually know where your file is. MP office seems to have more information if they contact IRCC on your behalf.

In a series of internal IRCC emails, employees acknowledge that the backlog of those permanent residents who are ready to take a citizenship test grew from 87,000 people in March 2020 to 102,000 by the start of this year.

The information also shows there were 311,259 people waiting to go through the entire application process for citizenship at the end of January.

Of those, 102,989 had been waiting between 13 and 18 months — and 865 for more than four years.
