Hi Guys,

We applied for permanent residency on August 15 and our application was received on the 22nd - still waiting for our AOR.

We are currently in Texas visiting family, and, long story short, we found out today that my husband had been issued a ticket for possession of drug paraphernalia back in 2016, despite him not having been given any Paperwork at the time and not receiving notice to appear in court due to having moved.

Thankfully, possession of drug paraphernalia is not a criminal offence in Canada so it should not render him in admissible, however, we did not disclose this on his application as he was under the impression it was just a traffic stop. No arrest took place at the time, the officer threw out the marijuana roach and he was sent on his way. Today we paid the fine to get it over with as he had been given a failure to appear by the court, And it would be a huge headache to travel back to Texas to try and fight the case.

All that said, I think we should report this to IRCC immediately before they find out without us notifying them as I don’t want to be hit with misrep ( this incident didn’t even show up on his extensive federal background check for work or FBI background check for PR).

Does anyone know who exactly we should contact or have any advice on what we should do with this newfound information?
i think you have to ask family immigration lawyer

NZ/UK citizen married to CA/UK/NZ citizen.

Inland family sponsorship, PR and OWP submitted on June 21 and received on June 24.

Sponsorship and PR acknowledged on August 7.

OWP approved September 30.

Arrived in May with dual intent (border officer didn’t really understand what I meant when I told her) and had first application sent back due to missing signature and long instead of short form NS marriage certificate.

I would suggest that you update the IMM form that includes the question regarding past criminal offences/ charges and send it through webform. You have to send a detailed explanation stating that you were unaware of the information but would like to disclose that to the Canadian Immigration. They do extensive background and security checks so its best to be safe now.
You can also find an immigration consultant or call IRCC if you want further advice regarding the matter.

Oh :( what was the reason they returned it??
It will take a couple of days for you to receive it. Give it by the end of the week.

I am sorry to hear that. I am surprised that they told you the application was returned. It's been already 2 weeks and no application was returned to your home. That's really strange. I would just start preparing a new forms now.

Was able to link husband's OWP application to his CIC account today! Says it's in process, but we're just happy we're not having everything sent back to us this time. Good luck to everyone else.

Anyone else received AOR? Mine was received August 21st but no AOR yet (or our lawyer hasn't told us yet).

we're on the same boat!! Mine was received aug.21 too and hasn't gotten any aor. But I caled IRCC yesterday to check on my application and the agent told me that i already have a temporary file number and there's no missing document so they'll probably change it to a permanent file number anytime soon. Still hoping everything goes smoothly

Ah ok that makes me feel better haha. I don't think I'll bother ringing them as it seems like we're on similar time frames (I'm assuming our lawyer did everything correctly!). Fingers crossed for AOR soon.

Just checked the spreadsheet and someone who's application was received the day before mine now has AOR as of today. Fingers crossed!
