You guys would probably get faster answers by making a new thread or posting in an appropriate thread.

My guess is Paris was backlogged, so your app was in a pile, and was transferred to Rome for faster processing. How long ago was it transferred? You should order notes.

Guys, I recently (5 months) moved to Canada as PR. I got married during this time. I started working for last 2 months. Can I sponsor my wife now? I am confused about my duration of staying in Canada and the job i am doing which gives me around 1500 dollar per month. In my situation am I eligible?

There's no time or financial requirement for sponsoring a spouse. You need to show how you will support yourselves however. The only requirement as a PR is that you remain in Canada during the sponsorship process.

Good morning fellow insanity threaders, is it sunny where you are? it's sunny and cold here but beautiful

Chilly here too. I cannot believe the lack of updates on any of these threads. I have been avidly watching July AND September. Silence. Nothing. C'mon Ottawa, lets get the show on the road!

It must be busy though because I've been calling all day long since yesterday to see if they can confirm that the additional documents I requested were received, but I haven't been able to get through. It keeps saying that they are getting a higher number of calls than usual so they can't connect me to an agent. Difficult for me to call throughout my work day but I guess I'll keep trying!

I know right? I think the constant excitement of November has turned us all into addicts instead of the "it will take 14 months" attitude i went in with. ALSO I work at a govt place and there are people who had this week off, so I would say it's possible Ottawa won't be in full swing until next week

Question in the meantime: do new PR people have to wait 3 months to get medicare? so we should have medical insurance to cover his first 3 months in Canada as PR?

No. As soon as he is granted PR he is eligible. How do I know? Cuz I work for Provincial Healthcare. So as soon as he gets the letter granting him PR apply for healthcare.

Man this gets harder every day. I honestly thought so many of us would hear something this week. I guess they are still trying to get back up to full speed. Week is not over come on Ottawa!

Actually it depends on which province you'll be living in. We're moving to BC and there you do have a 3 month wait period. So we have to arrange private insurance for those three months. I think there are two or three other provinces with the same wait period but don't know which ones.

I'm not sure that this is correct. I know that is not the case in Alberta. Please refer to this link: http://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/health-drug-coverage/msp/bc-residents/eligibility-and-enrolment/are-you-eligible/applicants-for-permanent-resident-status. Which states "A spouse or child of an eligible B.C. resident may also be deemed a resident provided that an application for permanent residence status has been accepted for processing by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), and the application remains active."

I believe Alberta is one of the only(if not the only) province where you can apply and receive it ASAP no matter what. I know in Ontario, as soon as you become PR or in certain cases a valid work permit, you can apply but it still could take around 3 months before you are eligible. If your partner has already legally been in Canada for 3 months and have documents to prove, the wait should be shorter! :)

"You cannot get Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) coverage right away. You have to wait for 3 months after you arrive in Ontario.

You can apply for OHIP as soon as you have the documents you need. But you will not get a Health Card and your coverage will not start until you become eligible (after 3 months).

According to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, when you apply, staff will look at your documents to figure out when the 3-month waiting period starts."

Hi, everyone. My husband's background check has been In Progress since December 2. It's getting so frustrating checking every day and not getting any news! I know I shouldn't be complaining since we are living together in his country and are not separated like so many other couples, but it would still be nice to have everything settled so we can start making plans for the future!

Let's hope for good news to come in the next few weeks! :-*

Same here :( I was expecting we could hear some good news this week, but it ended nothing. I hope starting next week we could get our PPR. It's very frustrating and sad because we could not celebrate our first wedding anniversary together. :( *cries*

Mine has been stuck in the mud too since December 7th. I'm not even at the background check yet.
