I tried to call and ask about my application but the customer service person laughed at me and said my application is within 1 year, not very nice but I understand his position. Can I do anything to see if they are actually working on it?

My timeline is very similar to yours and my in process was on Aug 24th exactly. Well, I wasn't ready to wait too long this time around, so I contacted my MP office on 24th of October. And guess what, same day, I was given an interview date of 24tth of November.
So, I would advice that you contact your MP and I am guessing, once they open your file, you will get a test letter too!

But during interview the officer mentioned that he will have to verify my residency by requesting for my entry records from CBSA. Any idea on how long this may take or is it possible he will send me an RQ?
