Hi Guyz,

I am an Aug 15, 2014 applicant. My common law partner and I just received MR around Jan 20th, 2016. We are going to get married in March and it is UNLIKELY that our PR will be done before that.

1) Do I need to inform CIC immediately or should I wait until we are actually married?

2) Other than the marriage certificate and supporting pictures etc, do I need to re-complete any forms?

Hey,

My wife and I got married in Dec (2015) and our PR was and still is in process. We initially applied as common-law spouses. (Principal applicant and spouse)

After we got married, we sent CIC an email with a scanned copy of our marriage certificate and explained the situation. They responded saying that our file had been updated with the documents submitted and we did not need to do anything further regarding this concern. So I guess just send a copy of the certificate after you get married and they should respond. It was fairly straightforward for us. Our applications for BOWP were also in process so we were worried about updating the status for that too, so we emailed them again stressing that we applied for BOWP via paper application and could they confirm that our marital status had been updated for that also, and they responded with pretty much the same email. Confirming receipt and instructing us not to send any further documentation. But again, confirming that our status had been updated.

Best of luck buddy!

Once you're married - they only care about status change, not plans to change status

As others already said there is no need to send anything upfront - any questions they might have about your marriage are exactly the same ones they might have had about your common-law relationship - If they need anything they will ask.
