Hi, I am going to apply for pr under CEC class. I attempted suicide due to depression 2 years ago in Canada while I was studying. I was kept in hospital for 11 days. Then I was discharged by the doctor. Since then I moved on with my life. Now I don’t have any suicidal thoughts nor the depression. Should I be worried that I will be rejected at medicals?

I am sorry to hear about your struggles with mental health. Yes your suicide attempts and stay in a psychiatric ward will be a consideration. I would be prepared to provide proof of your treatment for mental health issues, current medication, prognosis for your healthcare team, proof that you have been able to work continuously without breaks, etc. Unfortunately such serious mental health issues are rarely a one time event in a person’s life and are often a struggle that is lifelong just like any chronic illness even if there are periods where the illness is well controlled.
I am currently taking no medication. I am no longer seeing a psychiatrist. As I thought that was bad face of my life. Yeah I will provide the proof of treatment taken at hospital during that 11 days. Should I see a psychiatrist now and ask for a letter that I am doing okay now?

Don't worry about it - it will not have an impact and will not be a grounds for rejection. Just answer the questions honestly to your panel physician. As long as you are not a threat to Canadian society and you are not above the medical cost threshold, it is ok. We managed to sponsor my 53 year sister suffering from depression and schizophrenia as a dependent (We were sponsoring my mom and put her as a dependent).
After my sister had completed her medical, they asked her to get a psyc. report from their panel of psychiatrists. We did that and they passed her medical in a week and she got her PR. So don't worry. Yours was just a bad patch like you said. We all stumble but we pick ourselves up and move forward. Nothing to worry about kid
Just answer the questions honestly. If they do not bring up anything about suicide do not volunteer the information. We had to tell everything because my sister had been struggling with mental illness for decades and that was the only way we could sponsor her i.e. as a dependent.
I am confused. When they give the form, there is question it says. Have you ever admitted for the treatment under major depression? Should I say yes for that and explain in the column that I attempted suicide, also explain them took treatment for 11 days and was discharged from the hospital.
We had to answer yes because my sister had a decades long battle with depression. Check with your psychiatrist if yours would be considered 'major'. If unsure, my advice is to tell the truth rather than have the whole application rejected for dishonesty. Like I said, your 11 day stay in the hospital is not grounds for rejection.
IRCC will be able to see the billing for the stay at the psychiatric hospital so you definitely can not hide your stay. It is very unusual to spend 11 days in a psych hospital and not have any follow-up treatment/care. It is pretty likely that you will be asked for proof of your mental health status will your current physician or a psych evaluation.
If our sister was able to pass her medical (with the psych evaluation) after 30 years of mental illness, I'm very certain this guy will have no problems passing it.
It can often be harder when you’re already in Canada because Canada has the records of the services you used and the cost. Your sister also got quite lucky. If she has been unstable, unable to work, has been institutionalized due to her mental health (not sure if that is the case) and is unable to care for herself she could have been easily denied. Approvals are not consistent. I assume you argued that because multiple family members were in Canada it would be unfair to leave them in their home country and that you would be the position to provide longterm care to your sister between all the family members. Assume you likely showed that you had the extra means to support her without public funds. Your sister could require longterm care in the not to distant future, especially if your mother passed or got more frail, which usually means excessive demand on the health system. She could also try to apply for disability if she qualified which also means excessive demand. There are others will similar stories that have been denied.
