I need some help.

My wife and I are hoping to relocate to Calgary, we currently live in Scotland and are UK citizens.

I have accepted a job there and my wife has been accepted into college.

We thought we'd wait until my LMO came through before applying for work and study permits but there has been some issues with this (paperwork not being sent on time from the company i'm going to be working for) The LMO process was started in October 2011 and had to be re-applied for on 2nd December, I've still not heard anything, this is now February, we were hioping to be away by the end of this month.

My wife applied for her study permit as the LMO process was taking too long, this was only sent away last week, i understand according to the London site that this can take 8-10 weeks. I'm a fully qualified plumber, this will be my trade in Calgary and the LMO has been applied for within Alberta (i dont know if this makes a difference but I want to include all information)

Does anybody know if we can just leave for Calgary (my wife's course starts on 3rd April so time is running out) and take our acceptance letters and paperwork with us and they can issue us with our permits at the port of entry? My wife has made copies of everything she sent in her study permit so things like proof of funds and police certificates etc would be copies.

Ideally we will have my LMO through sometime between now and mid March and getting our permits at the port of entry would'nt be an issue but it's a lot of money to lose if it doesn't come through on time on flights etc, plus we're taking our dog! So we need to know for sure if this is possible, please someone help us, we're stressed out of our minds!!! My wife has to be there for 3rd April.

Thanks for reading this lengthy post!

Study permits can't be issued at the border. And your wife can't begin her studies without the study visa. That's one wrinkle in your plan that I can see...

Thanks for your reply,

We know that she cant start her studies until she has her permit but what we are wondering is - will they let us in at the border with acceptance letters for work and college? It's the LMO that is the problem here, do I definately need this before they'll let us in, this still hasnt come through and we've been waiting months.

We'd be extremely grateful for some info on this.

Thanks, Grant
