I need some clarification on how to fill out an application form for my Son who is traveling on holiday with me to Canada. I filled out my form as a mother and a section asked me if we were traveling as a group to which I answered yes, also another second asked for the detail of who was traveling with me which I wrote my son's name and confirmed yes (traveling with me) after filling my form up to payment. I was asked to pay visa fees of $100 and Biometrics of $85 making $185. but what is confusing here is that they did not ask me for my son's form or payment. Do I need to fill out another form for my son? when I submitted my own as was filling the form online. (2) will our application be linked together? Please advise me before I make payment. Thanks you

Regardless of those questions, you should apply for your son anyway. It doesn't matter if he is dependent to you, you still need to apply for him. You can create a group application, apply for yourself and him and submit together. So yes, you should fill out the forms for him as well.

Here is my suggestion. Use the new IRCC portal. https://portal-portail.apps.cic.gc.ca/signin?lang=en, select the type of Visa is related to your case. and then you can select to create a group application. When you create a group application, it will ask you to add the members of your group which you'll add yours and your son names there. then you will see that you have to answer the questions separately for both of you and then separate documents. Your son is 12 so he doesn't need a separate invitation letter if you have one and he doesn't need proof of funds, he is dependant to you. But you should send out his passport copy and other required documents.
No, children under 14 don't need to do biometrics.
