I recently signed a job in Canada from oversea and didn't ask them to pay for my moving cost(I know, I should have asked before signing but regardless I would still have signed even they didn't provide any support for my moving cost). Is it appropriate to ask now? and if so how should I ask without coming off too unprofessional or inappropriate? ,

You're right it's difficult to ask after you've signed but I don't think there's any harm in asking. Just find the most diplomatic way of asking if they offer any assistant with relocation or say you couldn't find the section with regards relocation (this depends on how long ago you signed)

In an interview process I was in they knew full well that I was planning to relocate anyway and I asked them if they would assist with relocation and they said yes.

Don't ask don't get

Most relocation comes with a clause in the contract that if you leave within a certain time you have to pay it back anyway, and if you're there and adding value then they have a good hire. Happy employee, hard worker = productive = company makes money

ya, I dont see any harm in asking but still trying the best way ask hah... I know I can't sound demanding and I'm not sure should I bring up an exact amount I wish to have... any suggestions?

the way i did it was to ask for a contribution, as you know, you're prepared to move anyway so any amount is more than nothing

No, you do not ask for specific amounts. As Showmanshow suggested, you ask "if there is any relocation assistance". Only, and only if they say "how much do you want" then you can ask for as much as you see fit.

Usually companies have "relocation amount tops", so let's say up to 1000CAD. So that is the most you will get. Remember to keep your receipts properly filed.

I think you have your quotes mixed up it was actually me who suggested the above to showmanshow not the other way around.

I've been offered CAD 6,500 relocation so I guess my company isn't standard

Is this one to me?

I work in recruitment and have been doing it for over 12 years, just for the record and I don't want to jinx anything but I haven't signed anything yet, just working through the admin.

I know a fair few people around the world who can make intros and also visited to interview.

Nope, quotes are fine.

Sorry I beg to differ:

'Just find the most diplomatic way of asking if they offer any assistant with relocation or say you couldn't find the section with regards relocation (this depends on how long ago you signed)'

And thank you, I've been in this game more than enough years and have negotiated countless employment contracts for people. Going all the way up to Global C level for bulge bracket investment banks.
