Hi Asivad & Seniors,
Greeting from India.

I am into relationship and early next year I am going to get married - My would be has applied for EE - FSW and has already submitted her profile scoring 435 points.
She has applied as a primary applicant.
my question is that if she gets ITA before our marriage what should we do? and if she gets ITA after our marriage then what needs to be done in that case?
I have even heard that after marriage couple needs to be together for a year in order to apply? Is it?

Hope for the best and waiting for your guidance. Thanks in advance :)

For now, they can include you in their application as common law partner provided you can provide evidence of cohabitation (joint lease, joint bank accounts etc - read more on the CIC site) for at least the past year. If that isn't possible, they cannot add you in their application till you get married and provide CIC documentation proof of the same.

1. If you get married BEFORE they get an ITA, you will be added as spouse (accompanying or otherwise) in their profile and their points will drop further leading to lesser chances of getting an ITA.

2. If you get married AFTER they get an ITA but BEFORE they submit their post ITA application, you will be added as spouse (accompanying or otherwise) in their profile and their points will be recalculated leading to either their points dropping below the cutoff of that draw and cancellation of their ITA or no impact if the recalculated points are still higher than that draw's cutoff.

3. If you get married AFTER their post ITA submission and BEFORE they 'land' in Canada to activate their PR, you will have to inform CIC about the marriage and get yourself added into their application as an accompanying spouse. In this case, you will get PR status along with them provided you clear medicals and have no adverse criminal history.

4. If you get married AFTER they 'land' in Canada and activate their PR status, you will have to be sponsored under a new Family class application.

As you can see, everything depends on when you get married and when they get their ITA. Think it through and plan wisely.

I have even heard that after marriage couple needs to be together for a year in order to apply? Is it?

Not true.

Hope for the best and waiting for your guidance. Thanks in advance :)

Thank you so much Asivad for the immediate reply. How much time does Sponsorship takes if she lands and activates her PR?

Makes sense to get that done. There is significant variation in the names.
