Hi,

I worked for 3 years in a company in India from 2010 to 2013 and now I live in Canada (recently completed a Masters).

I just talked to who was my supervisor during those three years and he is ready to give me the reference letter as per CIC format + I also have a relieving letter from the HR deptt. which certifies what duration and dates and on what position I worked for the company.

Since the company where I worked is very hostile and if the higher management comes to know that an employee has given a reference to another ex employee using company's letterhead and company's stamp, it can put the referee in serious trouble, hence, my former supervisor, who is ready to give me reference letter as per CIC format (On company's letterhead, stamped and signed), said me that he would verify the claims made on the letter as long as the CIC contacts him at his official contact information and not the HR people and also said that if the CIC people contacted the HR deptt to verify the claims made by me on the letter, he will deny that he has even signed that letter (to prevent himself from getting into trouble).

My question is:

1. To what extent does CIC dig into out of Canada experience, especially when the applicant has submitted signed and stamped reference letter on Company, submitted the paystubs, relieving letter from HR deptt, and income tax slips?

2. As per my situation described above, if the CIC chooses to verify the reference letter, will it contact the referee on the mentioned official contact information OR will it contact the HR deptt saying that we want to verify this reference letter signed by XXX employee of your company?

3. If I am proving the reference letter on company's letterhead (signed and stamped), how important is it to attach the Visiting card of the referee?

Thanks in advance!

Nobody can predict that. It seems extremely unlikely that they will reach out to verify this but there is a non-zero probability of that event.

2. As per my situation described above, if the CIC chooses to verify the reference letter, will it contact the referee on the mentioned official contact information OR will it contact the HR deptt saying that we want to verify this reference letter signed by XXX employee of your company?

CIC reserves the right to do what they want to verify for themselves. This can include passive and active inquiries including mails, calls, physical visits etc.

3. If I am proving the reference letter on company's letterhead (signed and stamped), how important is it to attach the Visiting card of the referee?

Do NOT get it on the letterhead because you don't work there anymore and it can get your ex-supervisor in trouble. Get it on a plain piece of paper, ask your ex-supervisor to sign the same and provide their business card for reference. Get the reference letter notarized to prove authenticity (the notary public might ask for supporting documents to cross-verify the information provided in the reference letter). Attach all these with an LOE highlighting your HR's refusal to issue reference letters and the reasons behind adopting this workaround.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks a lot Asivad.

The ex supervisor has asked me to write the duties and resp. by myself and he will review and sign it. In an earlier post, you suggested me to paraphrase them w.r.t what is mentioned in that NOC on CIC's website. Since duties and resp. is a very critical thing that too for a FSW applicant, I have some (silly) questions in regards to that:

1. On the course of paraphrasing, can I shuffle the duties and resp. as mentioned on the CIC's website?

2. What %age do the CIC people match the similarity of the duties and resp. mentioned by the applicant vs that mentioned in the NOC?

3. To show the letter more realistic, can I add some duties and resp. which are NOT mentioned in the NOC? (Apart from having mentioned ALL the duties mentioned in the NOC)?

Thanks in advance

Yes.

Majority match - 60-70% or more would do.

Yes.

Thanks in advance
