Dear Judy,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I am being relocated by my current employer in India to Canada. By relatives, I would include my maternal uncle, maternal aunt, maternal grandfather and maternal grandmother (Both uncle and aunt being citizens) In such a case, would it be possible for them to sponsor my mother, either initially, while accompanying me, or later, while applying for the extension in the tourist visa, as is issued?

So yout Grandmother and Grandfather are Permanent Residents but only your aunt and uncle are citizens?

If your grandparents are PR's i am sure your mother is much too old to be sponsored by them. What do you mean sponsored - for temporary visa or permanently?

Where are your grandparents and aunt/uncle living now in Canada?

Your Aunt/Uncle/Grandmother/Grandfather could certainly "invite" her for a visit and if approved your Mom could come for a "visit" and normally the standard "visit" allowed at the POE is 6 months. And as Scylla has indicated she (your Mom) could request for extensions of the visit but I doubt if she'll be allowed to stay for the 3 years you'd be working here.

Thanks a lot for the reply. Is there a provision for multi entry visa for a longer period, wherein she could visit for sometime, go back for sometime, and once again comeback. And as regards the extensions, do I need to apply for an extension in the tourist visa after the period of 6 months, or can I apply in advance. Either way, I want to ensure that I have the option for the maximum 6 month extensions legally possible!!

There is multiple entry visa and your Mom can apply for this but this does not guarantee entry at every arrival. If the POE officer notices that one has been in Canada more than out then s/he could be refused entry.

A visitor in Canada should actually apply for the extension before the status expires (usually a month before the expiration period is advised)

what is your plan? for your Mom to come to Canada? Or you? I am confused. There are so many things going on here.

Jobseeker is point on with his evaluation of your mom, but I think you were also talking about yourself, right?
