Arriving in Canada as a Visitor

Hi,

I have finally got all the information, forms, checks, and ect ready for my husbands application. He is a UK citizen and is moving here to Canada and applying for his Spousal Visa. We will be applying outland even though he will be here in Canada with me. He is planning on coming in January. My question is what does he tell the border agency when he arrives so they allow him in? He is technically allowed to be a visitor for at least six months without a visa as a UK citizen, but I know they can still hassle you if you do not convince them you are not planning to stay illegally. What is the best thing he can tell them to be allowed into Canada without any problems when he arrives? He will only have a one way ticket as he is planning on applying for the visa once he is here. Thank you so much

that one way ticket sounds like a big red flag to me. Could he apply for a temporary resident visa even though he isn't required to get one? If so, apply right away; waiting time is over 100 days.

does he have a job and or property in UK, if you show them that it might help

also if you buy a two way ticket these days, you can pay a small fee for cancellation. Its better than arriving in canada and not having entry.

we were just honest with them. at the port of entry I said that I was visiting my husband and my application was in process. they asked me if I was aware that I could be asked for an interview, I said yes, and they stamped 6 month visa to my passport and wished me a good stay in Canada.

I was honest and they let me in for 6 months with no issue (also from UK) but they asked to see my return ticket.

I crossed the border the last time a week before my one year work permit expired, so I asked the immigration agent for a six month visiting visa since I was applying for residency and after having asked me some questions she gave me the visa. I did not have a return flight and I was very blunt about the fact that I considered myself living in Canada, but I was also clear about complying to whatever decision would get thrown in my face.
