Hello Fellow members,

I am in a big dilemma since the new list got released. I was planning on applying under NOC 1111, which no longer exists on the qualifying list of NOC's.
The only other option that I am left with is: Arranged Employment.
I tried contacting various Job Hunters and Employment Agencies in Canada and everyone responded back saying that I should contact them again once I have work authorization. Well my primary reason to find employment is to get work authorization.
does this mean that we foreigners cant get employed or get employment offers from employers till we get our PR? or are legally authorized to work there? I don't get it.
How can I apply for jobs and get points under the Arranged Employment category? Anyone applied for PR after getting Employment offer, please share your experiences.
Which websites did you you use to apply for jobs? Did you apply directly to companies or used employment agencies services?
Please help. I am a qualified Accountant/Auditor, but am left with no other option to apply for immigration.

Unfortunately it is hard to get an AEO. Many employers just don't want to deal with it. You can see the process on applying for AEO at http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/workplaceskills/foreign_workers/supperimm.shtml and you should familiarize yourself with that so that you can explain it to employers you apply to how it works.

Then keep applying for jobs and when it comes up that you do not have work authorization, you should word it so that you need a job offer before you can get one. Make it sound to the employer like it's not a big deal. Stress to them that there is no obligation involved for them to do it.

You can try some of these job search websites:

Hi, if you have relatives or friends in Canada, you can ask for their referral. Most of the time, smaller companies are willing to do it. Unless you are a cut above the rest, and your specialization or expertise is rare and worth the wait, otherwise, most companies will just pass you on and move on to the next candidate whose papers are in place and available to work in a month's notice. Good luck on the job hunt! My AEO appl was just submitted by my employer and I hope the processing is not that long as I have gathered on some posts.

Hi sbo,

if you can you have to search for a job yourself in person!
A lot of employers are more willing to help you with a joboffer if they see YOU instead of an agency.
They can see who they are hiring and maybe you can convince them to offer you a job.
YOU are the one who wants a job so sell yourselve with your skills and experience!
You can explain how the AEO procedure works, and if they have any questions you can explain it right there.
And if you cannot find a employer who is willing to help you with your AEO, you always can try an LMO.
Than you can start working sooner and apply for a PR after that.....

Good luck,
Louise!

Thanks Louise! So you are suggesting that I go to Canada in person and hunt for jobs? That might be a little difficult for me to do at this point in time. :( I know what you mean by convincing them in person.... but I cant...so what is LMO?? How does that work?? Thanks for your time.

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Hi sbo,

we had arranged 7 interviews BEFORE going to Canada, after sending about 500 applicationletters with resume and made a lot of phonecalls.
I think it's the best way to get a joboffer, but if you can't.....

An LMO is a Labour Market Opinion and its a workpermit for about 6 months.
The employer also has to apply for it at the HRSDC but in general its a quicker processingtime.
After those 6 months you have to apply for another one and can do that I think for about 3 times.( correct me if I'm wrong, other members)
Maybe you can convince your future employer to hire you when you tell them that you are able to work for them within a short time.
Ín the meantime you can apply for a PR, but I'm not sure how long you have to be in Canada for that.
Try to find more info at the CIC.gc.ca site....
Or on this forum!

Good luck,
Louise!

LMO is a labour market opinion and it is applied for by the employer to prove to the Canadian government that he can not find a Canadian citizen or PR for your job. He needs to fulfil certain requirements like having advertised said job for a certain period (I think it's 2 weeks) and he needs to be offering market wage. If he has not advertised the job, he will be denied. If he is offering $10 an hour when Service Canada feels he should be offering $15, he will also be denied. Even if he fulfils both criteria, he still may be denied.

If he gets the LMO (which may have taken anywhere from a few weeks to a few months), then you can use the LMO to apply for your work permit. Then you must show that you have strong ties to your homeland and will not try to overstay in Canada. If you get the work permit, it may be issued for a year or two and you can only work for that employer. If you want a new job, you must get a new LMO and a new work permit for that. Once your work permit expired, you and the employer need to apply for an extension.

While you are working on a work permit, as long as your job is skilled, you will have some options to apply for your PR, under the skilled worker program with a job offer or being sponsored through a provincial nominee program.

Thank you Leon and Louise-01 for ur valuable comments. LMO option sounds a little unstable or not too promising for permanent stay. I guess I am just going to try my luck as a FSW and simultaneously keep trying for AEO.
Thanks again! :)

Hi SBO, Hi all,

LMO has its advantage and may take shorter period to process (as in my case, my employer was able to get me one within 3 weeks, but take note: at the time (April 2008) , the job (accounting) was currently in demand in BC and was prioritized processing. Otherwise, I think at that time, regular processing takes about 2-4 mos. And just you think it was my luck, immigration turned against me! My work visa was denied, as they see me with no strong ties with my home country and that my intended stay in Canada is not temporary.

If you have strong proof of ties in your home country, you can start out with an LMO if easier for you. If your intention is to stay in Canada permanently, then aim for AEO. The long wait may be worthwhile.

Thanks Twilightgirl. I'm aiming for the FSW category for right now.For any reason I get rejected, then will start looking out for job offers and will either apply through AEO or LMO. Time will tell...
What about you? Sorry to hear that your work visa got denied. What is your status now??

I am on status quo!!! ;D I have an employer who submitted an AEO application for me. As soon as I get that I will be able to apply as FSW Category 2.

If you are applying under NOC 1111 after June 26 then that no longer qualifies. You need an AEO to apply under FSW Category 2. Do accountants/analysts qualify to apply under NOC 1122?
