I am in Canada from the 5th of August for a 1-year course.


Now I would like to do my 2nd-year course.
For that, I have to apply for my study permit extension.

If I apply for a study permit extension in January 2023, am I eligible to work more than 20 hours per week?

According to this, no. Once your study permit expires in March you are not eligible. But may be reading it wrong.

Honestly the IRCC instructions are confusing, but you can work unlimited hours up until the expiry of your permit.

Yes, these rules cause even more confusion.

Earlier, we knew that we could work no more than 20 hours.

One of my who got his visa in September and applied for Jan 2023 intake got his study permit till March 2023. Now he applied for a study permit extension. In this case, as he is going to apply for a study permit extension even though it is a mistake of IRCC he is not allowed to do more than 20 hours.

Are you currently studying the second course? Have you been accepted into the second course? When does the 1st one end and the 2nd one start? When did you apply for the extension?

Currently, I am studying the first course which is going to complete by April 2023 and my second course is going to start by May 2023 and completing in Dec 2023.

I am going to apply for my extension on January 15th

The unlimited hours ony lasts until December 2023. May continue but you shouldn’t count on it.
