I plan to get coverage for my mom in law when she comes for a month in February (her passport has already been stamped with the visa), but would like to know if travel insurance to visit Canada is obligatory and if so is there a minimum amount of coverage required?

I’m surprised one would ask such a question

Just making sure the bases are covered. Of course we will get her medical insurance but was wondering about possible coverage minimums. As a Canadian I am quite aware of the costs of basic medical care.

Here in Cuba there is virtually no health care at all unless your last name is Castro or you're a general in the army so most people muddle through life without medical coverage of any kind. Good luck finding an aspirin!

You have to buy it while she is in Cuba. If you wait until she is in Canada she likely won’t qualify. Supervisa coverage is 100k so I would probably suggest that. will cover many things but not a a major incident and long hospital stay. Always looks better to CBSA when you say you bought travel medical insurance.

Thanks. Bought coverage yesterday for the duration of her stay through RBC Insurance, which has worked flawlessly for other people I know.
