Are required funds the same for Recent Graduates as for general Skilled Worker

I'm confused if I need to have $10,000 in savings to apply for the Canadian Experience Class?


On the application it states you do, as far as I can see but then I see this now and again too on info sites:

Financial requirements (available funds) of Federal Skilled Workers should not apply to CEC as the program is limited to ready-to-work skilled persons who will have been in Canada for at least two to three years.

I am currently working for a non profit in Vancouver, it counts as a skilled labor job but it pays shit. I have to coordinate getting funds transferred from the USA to cover this requirement but as my parents have been laid off I don't want to burden them with this if I don't need to. Can someone please clarify?

For CEC, the funds requirement does not apply. If you see the "funds" item on the application form, you have the wrong form for CEC.

IMM 0008 SCHEDULE 3 - is for the FEDERAL SKILLED WORKER class - it asks for funds under item 10:

If you have a job already, you don't have to show funds at all, not even for skilled worker.

Just a clarification to what Leon said - it is true that if you qualify for CEC you also qualify under Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) class. It's not just as simple as "having a job" tho, to qualify as FSW Category 2, "arranged employment" (funds requirement waived). To qualify as "arranged employment" the job has to meet the CIC's definition of "permanent" ...

I have a job too but it does not qualify as "arranged employment" because it is a contract position - fixed term, renewable, but not "permanent". I would only qualify under FSW Category 3, where proof of funds are required for some inexplicable reason. Since that was not possible for me, I had to withdraw my FSW application and I will apply under the CEC in a couple of months...

...and since you, GO83, also work for a non-profit, it is likely that you are also on a fixed term contract...

Oh man. Confused. I have a job. I've worked at it for a year and a month. I don't have a contract of time I need to be hired for or work for. Just a general employment contact (there is no end date). They asked me to please consider staying for two years or more from when I started.

Would that cancel me out of having to show funds?

If you have a job offer for a permanent job (no end date) and a letter saying they will keep you after you get your PR, then you wont have to show funds.

Then it sounds like you have "permanent" employment, congratulations.

But now I am confused. You posted in the "Canadian Experience Class" (CEC) forum. Are you actually wanting to apply under the FSW Program? If so, you should be posting in the "Skilled Worker / Professional Immigration" forum. If you're not sure what the difference is, you could spend a little more time on the CIC website

If you've only worked for one year, you are not yet eligible under the CEC class. (Unless you also got some education/degree in Canada?)

You are (probably) eligible under the FSW Program Category 2, and do not need to show proof of funds - on the FSW application form, you can write "N/A" where it asks about funds (you have to use the IMM 0008 SCHEDULE 3 above for that class).

I'm applying under the CEC program because I completed a Canadian Degree at a University. To my knowledge I can apply after 1 year of skilled labor. I just hop ethey accept it as skilled labor!

If you are applying under CEC, then rules about arranged employment are irrelevant - different program!

You are concerned about your 1 year employment being accepted as skilled labor - ? Why? What is your NOC?

Well I'm an Administrator at a non profit (122 i guess) not an Administrative Assistant (144 Administrative Support). But with the NOC they can accept a title as being NOC but then sometimes it sounds like the job description is what decides things.
