April 2018 - Citizenship Applicant

On what basis we can request an urgent processing ? My wife's passport is getting expired by October 2018, I had already applied for our citizenship and the package is delivered to CIC but not yet processed. Should we renew the passport at this point of time ? Can we request an urgent processing based on this ? Kindly advice !

Below is taken directly from CIC website:

" To apply for urgent processing, you must be eligible to apply for citizenship and have an emergency, such as:
  • needing Canadian citizenship to:
    • apply for a job
    • avoid losing your job
    • go to a Canadian school, college or university
  • needing to travel because of death or serious illness in your family and you can’t get a passport in your current nationality
  • receiving a successful Federal Court decision on an appeal on a previous application for citizenship
Even if these conditions apply to you, we may not be able to process your request urgently. If we do process your request urgently, we may not be able to do it in time to help your situation."

Context is probably important here. There are many reasons why applicants may need to leave Canada for an extended period. For example my company has offices all over the world and people regularly go to work in these places for 2-3 month projects. They would need work permits to do this in many places. I don't think an immigration officer would find an issue with that. If however you can't explain why you have work permits and visas for another country and it looks suspicious to an officer it may be a different story. Maybe they will feel that it looks like you are trying to get citizenship just for a passport and then will take off right after.

Hey,

Of course. So, I was thinking of leaving Canada for a long period of time, worried about its implications and I wanted to have a representative to do up the application for me too, so I called up two immigration offices, one is from Vancouver, another one is from Toronto ( I moved from BC to ONT).

Basically, they both mentioned the process is getting stricter and they might ask all sorts of questions at the interviews - note there weren't any interview sessions at many years back. They might question anything including time physically away from Canada.

So I did not leave for long and did not quit my job, simply to avoid any future complications or delays in my application, as we will never know what is going to be asked at the interview and how to justify etc...

P.s I also posted an question in this forum before, got a few answers which I found logical and reasonable. We have already stayed in Canada long enough and whatever is the reason, why risk it in the last few months in the process while waiting for it?

Hi , Today i call IRCC office and they said, they did not receive my application, even by Canda post, application received on 30th April. Is anyone has such experience, what is the next step?

My app was delivered on April 23th and nothing since, no AOR.....
I called them last week, the agent told me exactly the same thing nothing is in my profile in their system based on the Canada tracking number I gave her, but also mentioned that doesn't mean we have not received it. Once we receive it we process it to make sure everything is correct and when its done we put you in system and send AOR
Anyway she filled a request for me to see whats going on and nothing since yet.
