My husband is stuck at application received and medical results have been received. The last activity that we had with the embassy in Mexico City was that my husband sent his PGR ( police background checks) on Aug 25.
I don't know what else they need and why we have been waiting so long for PPR. The wait is driving us insane.

Congrats!!!! That's wonderful news!! If you are a holder of a passport that is visa-exempt (probably you are) - the VO sends you the COPR by mail. In case you are not visa-exemot then they send you and email and ask you to send over your passport to them, so they can print the visa

Received PPR so we've sent it off with Appendix B and will hopefully get COPR soon! The PPR said that the COPR will be valid until March 6 2015. We won't be ready to move over then yet so it looks like my partner will be taking a short trip to Vancouver to land. We've both working on projects at work here in NZ, and would ideally like to move permanently in May/June 2015. We didn't expect the process to be so short when we initially applied. I have family in Vancouver who can send him his PR card when it arrives - does anyone have any experience with landing and then immediately leaving the country?

Has anyone flown their dog with Air Cananda in Cargo? We want to bring our dog when my husband lands and Air Canada is the direct flight he would take to Vancouver however I was told the aircraft AC 319 is not temp controlled in the cargo hold. Worried about my dog being too cold.

Hong Kong office seems to be at a stand still, with the exception of a few who files after us now having PPR, most of us are still stuck at application received.
I am guessing the government offices there aren't working very efficiently these days

You have to book your ticket first, then call AC to book your dog. The only problem with that is not all flights accommodate dogs in cargo . Go to the AC website and see which type of aircraft will accommodate the dog and book from there. Its a pain but that's the only way, unless your dog fits under the seat , then only a limited amount are allowed . They have all the carries on line and the weight restrictions and the dimensions of crates. It will cost you about 30$ or so $ when you arrive. The dog has to be inspected by a vet . Make sure you have all his or her vaccines up today and have documentation.

I flew my puppy with me (30kg) in cargo 8 hour direct flight.. We made sure that the plane cargo hold would be temp controlled and pressure controlled.
Try and find a flight where there will be temp control...your pup will be freezing if not! or you can ship him via AC Live Cargo

The only direct flight out of Mexico City is Air Canada aircraft 319 and apparently it's not temp controlled and that's my concern. Other flights are not direct.

I did contact AC live cargo and that's what they told me. Also a new rule all dogs out of Mexico City must use a cargo broker to take care of the paperwork which is an extra fee ( $300) on top of the 300 that AC charges for the dog in cargo! grrrr!!

I contacted PET. AIR. MEX and they ship the dog and they quoted me $2700 USD! using AC cargo. So crazy.

The only way around this is for him to drive to Puerto Vallarta (12 hrs) and then fly from there using WEST JET direct flight to Vancouver. I heard WEST JET is only $50 for the dog in cargo. Except car rental companies charge about 400-500 dollars for a drop off fee for the car in another city.

I wish there was an easier way for all this

Couldn't he fly to Puerto Vallarta or Mazatlan on a domestic carrier who takes dogs?

They are usually smaller planes that don't take animals.

Airlines won't take live animals where there is a risk of death.. Its very bad press and many major airlines have in the past had to deal with agencies like the SPCA to ensure their treatment is sufficient..

As far as I know AC has blackout periods where they wont take live cargo (too hot, too cold).. If they are willing to take your pet on the flight they are pretty confident it is going to arrive without injury.

even in "non temperature controlled" they usually have a range of like 5-35'. They couldn't let it go below freezing because then peoples liquids would all start exploding. Just be sure to pack your dog some good bedding

I would love to trust airlines haha and especially ones in Mexico. Anyway hubby said he would find a way to Puerto Vallarta and fly West Jet. They allow dogs after Oct 31. Sucks that Mexico city makes you pay for a cargo broker and Air Canada charges almost $300 for the dog in cargo. Where West Jet only charges $50. We are still waitong for PPR so we have time to figure things out. But winter is coming and I was hoping they come before christmas. Fingers and toes crossed

Ya, it's hard when dealing with brokers.. looks like we will be doing the same flying our other dog out of Peru.. Talk to the employees at the airport, when they take him, leave some tips, find out the kind of plane and it's specifications for cargo compartment (it might be same flight as yours but dog will have to go through cargo location). Air Canada has AC Live Cargo division and they are only ones in North America that have had dog handling and canine first aid training ( I took a course with the lady who trained the AC employees).
