I got this from the CIC website:

Permanent residents returning to Canada by airplane, boat, train or bus must show a valid permanent resident card (PR card) or travel document before boarding.

What I was trying to say applied to folks from visa free countries - the word "or" would suggest that these folks can come back without a PR Card - right?

Nope - a Travel Document is a specific document that you have to apply for from outside Canada. Sometimes on some carriers passengers from Visa-exempt countries aren't asked for their PR card, but it is always a risk.

I might be in a spot then as I must travel weekly overseas, mainly to US. After CoPR and having been landed and prior to getting a PR Card I could travel but stop over at the nearest land crossing and take a bus across - would that work?

A bus is a commercial carrier. You would be required to have a travel document. You can travel across in your own vehicle or by foot with a COPR only but if you travel by air, sea, or land in a commercial vehicle you will have to show either a PR card or a travel document.

Thanks, I just saw the "bus" one, so it would mean I fly to Buffalo, take a cab to Niagara, walk across and get my wife to pick me up from the Canadian side. I give up with this process - better to go live in Australia I think.

So finally saw this 3 lines in ECAS...

1. We received your application for permanent residence on April 30, 2014.

2. We started processing your application on April 28, 2015.

3. Medical results have been received.

ECAS is so slow that it is not updating it on time.

I received email Ready For VISA and already submitted passport.

Now let's see if the passport comes first or ECAS update first.

YES!!!!!!!! Finally some progress. It's been nothing since 23/12/2014. WOOOHOO!!

After a busy week, another good news for me. Got our PR cards today! :D

Good luck to all!!!

Readying myself to bend my elbow tomorrow for the Pacquiao - Mayweather fight. ;D

Yeah, it is surrounded by water. I imagine you will not have problems there with tedious border policies.

Hi Guys and Gals
I'm happy to see that a lot of April applicants are having positive outcomes for their applications. Congrats guys, it must feel like a big weight lifted from your shoulders. Happy for all of you :D :D :D ;D ;D

My application is sitting somewhere in CIC office to be reviewed by second VO, while I'm having sleepless nights. I have been suffering a great deal of stress because of the application. Hoping I'll hear from CIC very soon, before my stress gets the best of me. :P :P ::) ::)
Add me to the sheet, Apps received April 25, 2014, AOR June 5,2014
RCMP request July 15,2014.
Medical upfront Jan4,2015.
Anyone from April waiting for a 2nd review?

Happy landing to those waiting on their PP's to be returned! ;D

Just print a copy of your PPR email and enclose it along with your passport/s. I also wrote the application number in the envelope (exterior), but it's not required.
