I sent my passport with my family's at March. 14th as asked.
NY officer received them at March.15th.
But I don't hear anything till now, March. 26th.
Will it take a long time for family application?
How can I find whether they had forgotten to process them or stamped on them?
Can I go to NY to take the passports back? Without my passport I can do nothing.

Alright, thought I'd pitch in with my horror story as well.

Applied online: Feb 8
Passport Requested: March 14
Passport delivered at NYC: March 18

This is for a single entry. No word yet.

It's the validity of the visa. You will have to use the visa before it expires i.e. you may enter into Canada with the validity period.

have you received your passport from NY yet? When did they receive it.

Did you enclose the express flat rate envelope ?

Assuming you're asking me, yes, I did (though I live only 2 hours away).

Anyone tried or knows anyone else who tried to collect their passports in-person, without the visa? I need to travel to India in the coming few weeks at which point, I don't really care if they even stamp the TRV. They can keep my $75.

Apparently, sent to NYC is not a good idea. My timeline is

Feb 5th: online application submitted
Mar 2rd: received a message requiring original passport
Mar 4th: sent passport via first-class
Mar 10th: USPS record showed they received my passport

didn't heard anything now...I become worried now if they lost my passport...
The passport processing is really really slow...
I'm stupid that I didn't provide xpress-mail inside. It makes everything slower.

TO ALL,
R u adding "EAPP" in the TO address when sending ur passports for an online approved application. If not, then that may be causing the delay as ur passports may end up in the regular queue. Just a guess.

Dear all, I'm so exciting that I received my passport when I came back home.
The passport came as first-class mail. (I didn't use xpresspost.)

So I just added to my time line that
Mar 27th: received returned passport...

Thanks for posting back! Could you tell us when the Consulate mailed the passport to you (the date on the post mark)?

Just want to share my timeline for others' reference

3/13/13 Passport requested
3/15/13 Passport received at NY consulate
3/27/13 Passport sent to USPS (Prepaid Express Mail)

So it took a month to process online application, 12 days for NY consulate to affix the visa
I tried at 20 working days after application and 10 days after receiving passport to inquire, no response either time

I guess i will be getting mine today or tomorrow. My dates are pretty much the same as yours.

Sent mine to LA today. I'll post when I have new news. It seems to me that LA is much quicker than NY based on other's accounts. My theory is that most people from the US who'd like to visit Canada on a visitor visa live close to the border. As NYC is closer to the border, naturally these people would send their application to NY. Unfortunately, this means the workload is unbalanced causing the NY consulate to take more time than the LA consulate.

Here's my timeline:
2/6/13 applied online
3/13/13 Passports requested
3/14/13 sent passports
3/18/13 Passports received at NY consulate

I have enclosed express envelope. I live 30 minutes away from NYC. Still waiting for my passport. My trip to canada is on April 2nd afternoon. I hope I can get them by 4/01/13
