Hello everyone,

I have a question about the approval or allowance of a degree from Germany.
I will get my Dipl-Ing. (diploma engineer) - 5 year university degree by the end of the year and wondering what I have to do in order to get my degree accepted in the Canada.

Thank you very much in advance for all your help.

You look for the type of engineering in this list: http://cicic.ca/403/occupational-profiles-for-selected-trades-and-professions.canada?crit=1&sprofession=engineer&sRegulated=&sSkillLevel=

You click on it and find some more info, for example how to get your degree recognized.

must a German/Swiss degree be approved before one can start working in Canada?

Thanks,

Not necessarily. It depends on if it is a regulated profession. For example, if you are an engineer, that is a regulated profession and you can not work as an engineer unless your degree has been evaluated and approved by the right people. Until then, you could work in the field as an assistant but the employer would have to check and take responsibility for your work. If your profession is not regulated, then there is no problem. It would just depend on if your employer accepts your degree and that's it.

Thank you for the reply.

Does anyone know what a "german engineering diploma" would equivalent to in Canada?
I was reading something about beeing equivalent to a Bachelor what would be very surprising for me.

Follow my link in post http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/approvalallowance-of-german-degree-in-canada-t148879.0.html;msg2287804#msg2287804 It will take you to some engineering associations which you can contact and ask. From what I have heard about the German Diplom, it is somewhere between a Bachelor and a Master. If they were to say it is not quite a Master, the next step below is a Bachelor.

Wow really?
So that means the German Master degree would be equivalent to the Canadian Master degree but the German diploma degree is not?
That seems really unfair and degrading because the German Diploma is at least at the same level as the German Master?

I really do not know. From what I had heard about the German diplom at some point was that it is between bachelor and master. In order to find out how they would credit your education, you have to follow the link, contact the association and ask them. I am sure that when Canadian engineers come to Germany, they are subjected to the same process. Each country thinks their education is the best and nobody wants to approve someone into the club unless it is clear that their foreign education is up to standards. In Canada, you are the foreigner.

Oh yeah for sure. No offense. I know I am the foreigner in Canada and I am willing to do anything to join the club of a Canadian ;)
I was just surprised because the german diploma is only in Canada considered as a Bachelor.

But anyways, Thanks for your help and I have contacted the association in Yellowknife already and will see what they'll say.
