hi there my name is Jacob, my boyfriend is currently here on a working holiday visa and it will expire dec 28th 2018, we are about 3 months shy of being eligible to apply for common law status. On December 11th 2018 we applied to change his status from worker to visitor from within canada, the application was received online and it says they are processing it, will my boyfriend be able to stay here past the expiration of his visa while we await a response on implied status? We are just confused by what the website says as it says he is eligible if he has applied to “extend” his stay, I just want to make sure that applying to change your status also grants implied status while you await a result. Just need some clarification, thanks guys.

Having applied to extend stay before current authorised stay expires then an individual is on implied status and can remain until a decision has been made.

All explained on the IRCC site

Ok so applying to change your status is included under applying to extend your stay in Canada. Sorry that was the main thing, being hung up on vague terminology and making sure he doesn’t overstay and we put our future at risk. Thanks for the help!
