Hi Guys,

This forum is very helpful. I am planning to apply Study Permit for me and my 7 yrs old child. Kindly help me with some of my queries:

1. How much are the tuition fees for minor student travelling with parent on Study permit in Canada (to be specific in Alberta). I have came across to this website
stating that:

New legislations was introduced (May 2005) in Ontario by the McGuinty government, that will waive school fees for:
* Children whose parents have applied for permanent residence status to Citizenship and Immigration Canada and plan to stay in the country
* Children whose parents are studying at a publicly funded Ontario university or college

Is it applied also in other province in Canada such as Alberta?

2. Do you suggest me to pay my tuition fee to the University where I got accepted? Will it help my application to be approved?

3. Can you give me some tips about SOP. What should I include in my letter.

4. It states that applying the Study Permit in Abu Dhabi will take 8 weeks. Based from your experience, how long it took? I am going to apply on the First week of March and planning to start my post-secondary program on Fall 2011 (September). Do I still have enough time?

5. Since I am working in Dubai, what proof of ties from home country I should include in my application. My parents has a house under their name in Philippines. Also, my father and my common law partner are working in Abu Dhabi. If I include their salary certificate, will it be enough proof?

Will appreciate your suggestions and comments. Thank you.

Denyl- Just wanted to give you some background. I am a Indian national but have lived in Dubai all my life for the last 28 years...I did not apply from abudhabi because i know many cases where many ex-pats visa was rejected from abu dhabi due to the home ties issue..i will answer your questions below

1) cant answer since i am not sure about the fee and rules of Alberta since i am applying at a different province.

2)You have to pay your first semester fee and only then will your application be complete. So this is not an option. I mean you cant first wait for your visa and then pay your tuition, its first tuition then visa.

3) SOP- See it depends on your country of origin. I am an Indian and applying under a category called SPP India so in that we cannot include a SOP. The paper work included is very less and not as strenuous as the general category. But i know many friends from Pakistan who have to include a SOP when they apply from Pakistan.

4) My sincere advice would be to apply from your home country . It makes a huge difference. See even though i was born in Dubai and lived in Dubai all my life i am still an expat and cannot call Dubai home. You need to show properties and ties in your country of permanent residence ie India, Pakistan, Philippines, Srilanka etc. Many of my friends who i know ( expats) who applied from Abudhabi got their visa rejected due to the home ties factor. Normally Emiratis get their visa to canada from abudhabi but again they are emiratis and UAE is their home, unlike us who are just temporary residents. So its best to apply from your own home country and this is what i did. I flew down to India applied from Delhi and waiting to get my approval. Once i get it i will return back to Dubai and then frly out from Dubai to Canada.

@ ryan you are right in one way, but there are many ways to prove that one actually will return.

In your case it was the loan, .

nour140 from this forum, i think he's from Egypt he applied from UAE for study visa and he got it, u can check it, it's still there. All he did was show some ties with Egypt .

I don't think ties means applying from home country, if denyl does not have property , house or spouse then it would be tough.
A citizen of India can go to India anytime or any citizen of any country can do the same, that doesn't mean that he has ties with his country, ties have to be documented evidence of property, house,a spouse, loans, deed agreements or any legal things. Vizag_ canada was refused uinder SPP for not being well established in his country, he re-applied under general with his property documents and supporting documents and finally he too got the visa, a few of my Indian friends applied from Saudi and got the visa, one of them didn't even show ties to his home country but he too got his visa.

Cheers ;D

Try arranging a job letter from Pakistan.

that was the only reason. they said that visa officer is not satisfied that you will leave canada based on your ties in canada and in the country of residence (UAE).
